My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

BISMARK ~~ Shepherd/Hound Mix, Neutered Male, Black & Tan, 53 pounds, DOB: 12/20/2018

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT ME: Hi! I'm Bismark. Do you have some comfy beds or some space available next to you on the sofa, or in your office while you work from home? I'd love to keep you company and watch some movies while we get to know each other. If you go slowly with me and spend some time to gain my trust, you’ll have a friend for life. And, I really love to play and run around, and that would be a lot of fun! I really love my people at Crabapple, but know I need to find a “real home.” Let’s meet and see if we can be friends.

Bismark is a pretty laid-back guy once he is comfortable with someone. He’s just shy and nervous at first. He has been getting along well with the gentle and non-aggressive large dogs living at our clinic right now.

IF THERE ARE OTHER GENTLE AND NON-AGGRESSIVE PETS IN THE HOME: Bismark would need a slow, controlled introduction to any pets in the home, as he is timid around new dogs at first. Our staff can help you properly introduce them to achieve a smooth transition into your new home.

NO CATS AND SMALL DOGS/OTHER PETS: Bismark doesn't like cats or small dogs or small animals and shouldn't live with them.

FAVORITE THINGS: This handsome and smart guy will melt your heart. Bismark loves people and is not afraid to show it. He will push his head into you so that you can pet him, will roll onto his back for a belly rub, and will offer his chin to be scratched ~~ all while hypnotizing you with his beautiful, soulful brown eyes.

ACTIVITY: He enjoys outdoor play, going for walks and does well on the leash. Bismark would love his own fenced yard to run around in! He’s smart and treat/food motivated and will enjoy spending time with you and maybe even learning some cool tricks!

Bismark is up to date on vaccines and vet services, is neutered and microchipped and is ready to come home. He is healthy, heartworm negative and has been dewormed.

ADOPTION FEE: $65. His adoption fee includes one month of Simparica Trio (for heartworms, fleas, ticks and intestinal parasites). We’re offering ½ off all adoption fees for pets over 1 year of age to welcome Spring!

Additional adoption info

Our goal is to find good homes for all of the sick and injured pets we have, and to adopt them out in the best health possible. Each pet is fully vetted and cared for by our amazing Veterinary Staff! Our adoption fee is $130, which includes a spay or neuter, age appropriate vaccines, and a microchip. We offer a two week trial period, during which time you may return the pet for a full refund if the placement does not work out. We will accept a pet back after two weeks, but no refund will be issued. If a pet is returned after a longer time period we may require a $130 relinquishment fee. We do not perform home visits or have any particular adoption requirements, such as fenced yard. We do, however, reserve the right to turn down potential adopters if we feel like it will not be in the best interest of the pet.

Go meet their pets

Our Clinic is located at 12604 Crabapple Road, Alpharetta, Georgia 30004. Our hours of operation are Monday-Friday 6:30AM to 7:00PM and Saturday-Sunday 8AM to 4PM. We have a few adoption events at the Clinic each year. All of our adoptable pets may be visited at the Clinic at any time. However, if a pet is labeled as being fostered, please call ahead so we can arrange to have the pet available for you.

More about this rescue

Our Stray Program began in 1988, with one dog named Redman. He was rescued by a client who indicated that he had belonged to a homeless man. The man had since disappeared, and the red Chow was ill and now living on his own. We brought him to our Clinic and named him Redman. He tested heartworm positive, was treated for that condition and was also neutered. One of our Veterinarians fell in love and adopted him. Unfortunately, Redman did not live long due to heartworm disease, but enjoyed several great years with his new owner. It was because of Redman that our Stray Program for sick and injured animals came to fruition. We began a fund to support the Program and, since then, have found many sick and injured pets their forever homes! Thanks to Dr. Joe Gaston, we are able to continue our work to help sick and injured strays, and have the opportunity to give back to our pet community!
