My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

LOOKING FOR AN ANGEL TO ADOPT ME:  Approx. 12 years old / Approx. 19 lbs.

Hi, I’m Nitro!  I was adopted for about 3 years but came back to Mostly Mutts due to being protective of my mom and biting the grandson.  As a long-term resident of Mostly Mutts, I’ve bonded deeply with some volunteers that I love a lot who take me out for car rides and short walks, and we have a blast together.  I’m a sweet, funny, and quirky little guy who is ready to be your new best friend!

• OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  I want to be your only dog as I don’t want to share my person, or food/water bowls with another dog. / No cats please. / I should not live with kids due to the bite in my former home and due to guarding my favorite people.

• PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  I’m very devoted, loving, and sweet to my favorite people!  I’m the kind of dog that will bond deeply with a few people who are my primary pack/caregivers. Once I know and trust you, bring on the pets and lap time, please.  I’m sweet and loving to the people I love, and since being back with Mostly Mutts, I’ve had a few bites when guarding those favorite people.  I’ll do best in a home where my family unit is small and there are not too many new people coming and going. / My energy level is around a 4 – 6 and I love day trips with the volunteers that take me out.

• SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:  I'm a proud graduate of the Mostly Mutts University training program, so I've mastered the 'sit', 'stay', 'down', 'come', 'drop it', 'leave it' and 'place' commands.  I also use proper door etiquette and have good leash manners as well as accept nice strangers without jumping. My trainer says that I’m a smart guy! / I’ve had some issues with the crate both in my former home and at MM’s.  I do best in my little room at the shelter so maybe we can try a little washroom or another small area when you need to leave me alone.  / I’ve had very good potty manners at MM’s and in my former home on a good take-out schedule.  As I get older, I am needing to go out often as my little bladder can’t hold it for as long.

• LIKES/DISLIKES:  I love spending time with my favorite people, short walks, hard bones, treats, car rides, fuzzy blankets, and soft toys. I also like having my chest and belly rubbed and I enjoy looking out windows and peanut butter – YUM! Yard and stream exploration, rolling around in the grass and stopping to smell the flowers are also on my list of favorites!  / I don’t like meeting people too quickly or people getting into my space, just give me time to get to know you.  I’m not a fan of fast or loud moving cars that pass me on walks.  I also don’t like being confronted or having my hind quarters rubbed, but I do well for my baths and wipes once I trust you.  I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, and training.

• MEDICAL:  I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered.  I have a collapsing trachea so I should take shorter walks, led with a harness not a collar.  I should also not be walked much when it’s hot outside - just to go to the potty or to a cool stream. I’ve been diagnosed with Cushing’s, so I’ve started medication for that and I’m on a liver supplement.  I’ll need annual testing for Cushing’s, and I’ve just had that in Feb 2024. We are adding fish oil to my food for my skin.

If you’re looking for a devoted dog and have a nice quiet home environment as well as no kids or other pets, we could be a good match!  My adoption fee is $100.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

Mostly Mutts Animal Rescue & Adoption's Adoption Process

Our facility is currently open to the public Monday-Saturday, 11-3. We welcome you to come meet our adoptable Mutts & Kitties! Please keep in mind the following:

Many of our adoptable Mutts & Kitties are in foster homes, so please call 770-272-6888 to find out if the pet you are interested in is at our facility. With an approved application we can set up meet & greets and adoptions with a pet in foster care.
We are not yet up to full ‘staffing’ following the pandemic, so there may be times when we cannot do meet & greets or process an application on the spot.
The best first step is to submit an application via www.mostlymutts.org.
Our adoption counselors are happy to help make a great match for you and your family!

Adoption Info:
Please submit an application through our website at www.mostlymutts.org if you are interested in one of our adoptable pets. We are receiving a large volume of applications and processing may take a little bit longer than normal. We are grateful for your interest, and an adoption counselor will be in touch as quickly as possible. Please give us 48 hours to respond before sending a follow-up email.

Don’t see a dog or cat for you on the website? Submit the application anyway!! We are taking in a large number of dogs and cats weekly. Due to the overwhelming demand, many are matched with approved applicants prior to being posted online. Our adoption counselors will be happy to help make a great match for you and your family.

Thank you for your patience and support!

Who We Are:

Mostly Mutts is a 501(c)3, non-profit organization, staffed almost entirely by volunteers!

Our Mission is to help the Unwanted, Abandoned, Abused and Sick animals in our local counties. We fulfill this mission by working closely with County Animal Control Facilities, saving those who are in imminent danger of euthanasia, or those with needs which require specialized vet care that many other groups will not consider: major orthopedic issues, heartworm positive treatment, skin conditions, neglect and abuse
