For Adopt a Pet and the PEDIGREE® brand, October is all about finding homes for dogs in shelters. Adopt this month for a PEDIGREE® Wet Food Pouch and a chance to win a Homecoming-style photo shoot and shelter donation.
Callie is a 45-lb terrier mix. She is very energetic and playful. A home with kids but without cats (she REALLY doesn't like cats) would be great for her!
She was adopted by a nice family three and a half years ago, but they are moving far away to a place that doesn't accept pets, so returned her to us. Now 6 and a half years old, she is a super sweet girl, loves sleeping on the bed and loves discovering her yard! She is all about play and foolishness, (and nap-time and treat time) -- so long as she is on her medication.
SPECIAL NEEDS: Callie has Addison's Disease. This means that she has an adrenal hormone insufficiency. She takes a monthly shot of Percorten-V which requires a vet visit and takes Prednisone 5mg by mouth every other day to keep her stable. She is currently therapeutic and requires labs every 6 months. It's not contagious, but she requires daily medication and monthly veterinary treatment, which can be cost prohibitive for many folks. She can and will live a long, loving life with the necessary care.
Callie is spayed, up-to-date on vaccines, microchipped and house-trained. She is past all the puppy-stuff, and will be delighted to be in a new home with lots of fun family activities in which she can participate.

After you complete an application, there are several things that we will do:
1. We will check your personal references. Please be sure to list two personal references and include a phone number and an email address. (form asks for one; but I like two)
2. If you do not own your place of residence, we will call your landlord or leasing office. Please check with them first to learn about their pet policy.
3. We will call your veterinarian for a reference. We are looking for a history of annual exams, vaccines maintained routinely, annual heartworm tests and monthly preventatives. We require the following:
* All pets in the home must be spayed or neutered.
* If your pet is not up to date on vaccines, please do not submit the application until you have scheduled an appointment with the vet to get your pets current on their vaccines.
4. If you are a 1st-time pet owner, please include the name and phone number of the veterinarian you plan to use.
5. Be sure to call your Vet(s), giving them permission to speak with us.
6. We may need to do a home visit prior to approving your application, or post-adoption.
If these policies and practices are not acceptable, please do not apply.
