My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Precious little Connor is very affectionate with the people he knows and trusts, and he likes to put his front paws on your shoulders and kiss you. He has become quite the snuggler while in foster care and is the best little cuddle companion at night.

He is generally a happy guy and especially cute when he does his happy dance around your feet with a big smile on his face.

Connor is overall easy to manage and listens well. He is not hyper and actually quite calm for being a young dog. He does not make much noise. In fact he doesn’t really bark and with his looks as well we wonder if he is part basenji.

Connor can be very playful but he also has a serious side to him when the situation warrants it. It has been amazing to watch him transform from a dog that felt responsible for his young canine family to one that realizes he can leave that to the humans in his life and just be the happy, social young dog that is his natural disposition.

Connor enjoys playing chase and wrestle with his doggie friends and he has discovered that he likes toys and chews. From reacting negatively to strange dogs he now gets to make new friends fairly regularly and easily.

At first, he is leery of strangers, and trust has to be earned. If somebody tries to grab or trick him when he isn't ready, he can understandably get defensive and bite. He needs an experienced owner that can be gentle, patient, and good at communicating with him yet firm and persistent as well as keep him safe from people that don't know how to be respectful with dogs.

Connor is housetrained and also knows how to use a dog door. He likes his crate and easily goes in it. He has been taught some basic obedience; he is pretty intelligent but independent when it comes to training, so he often gives us this look of "Why?" until we motivate him properly to follow cues.
Connor loves to go for walks in all kinds of weather and is getting more and more comfortable with the usual suburban sights and sounds. He is good on leash by now. After bonding with his foster parents and dogs he has been able to enjoy hiking.

Connor can be fence reactive to dogs that go crazy on the other side and wants to jump the fence to get to them but if they are reasonably calm he just ignores them. He needs a 5' fence or 4' and angled/with coyote rollers.

Connor seems interested in medium age children he sees on walks. Due to his fear of being trapped/restrained he is not suited to live with small children that may try to hug him and trigger his self-preservation response.

Not good with cats from what we can tell, nor small critters.

Connor would probably be fine with apartment living with frequent walks and activities; he needs the chance to run zoomies at least every few days.

The vet thinks Connor was 1¼-1½ years old per end of December.

He looks like he may (or may not) have some rat terrier and possibly has heeler (aka Australian cattle dog) in him and/or shiba inu and/or basenji and probably more. Connor is full grown. He is a little over 20 lbs.
