My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Schubert is a very affectionate Maltese mix whose family became homeless and surrendered him so that he could have a better, more stable life. Upon bringing him into The Real Bark rescue, we learned through his fosters some old habits that were detrimental to his well-being and everyone’s happiness, and worked to make improvements through extensive training. He is quick to bond with new people and wants nothing more than to be in your lap, go for long walks, and rides in the car. He is about 7 yrs old, about 9 lbs (a little underweight), loves to give kisses, cuddle, play with his toys and get dressed up (especially for walks and if it’s chilly as he’s sensitive to the cold). Schubert is fully housetrained, is very well-behaved in the home and does well at the groomer. He would do best in a house with a safe private outdoor area for his potty trips, play and interaction with his favorite people. He should be the only dog in the home as he is an alpha who bonds very solidly with his people, and fostering has shown that he does not want to share them with another dog (he will get bossy due to jealousy of their attention). He may bark to let you know what he needs (such as a potty break) if you don't anticipate it. Schubert is a graduate of CANIS Dog Training’s 6 week live-in program, a quick learner and is eager to please. CANIS will do gratis continuing training with Schubert’s new family so that they can understand how to effectively communicate with him and mitigate his excitement when seeing other dogs on walks. His new home must be one where someone is home most of the time as he is not a dog who can be alone if his people have to leave to work out of the home. His people need to be dog savvy and able to be consistent with the environmental standards and needs that afforded him his training graduation and to ensure his utmost success to continue being a very good doggie. He looks to his people for guidance and has a lot of love to give. People who work from home or where one is retired would be ideal adopters. Older, gentle children and cats who are used to dogs would be fine in the home. We are currently set up to adopt within the Los Angeles county area.
