My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

FOSTERED IN: Chicago, IL 60617
ESTIMATED DOB: 2020
COLOR/BREED: Black Shorthair
KIDS: Teenage +
DOGS: Yes
CATS: Females

HISTORY:
Malcolm was an outdoor stray. His foster tries to care for and get as many of the neighborhood strays fixed as she can. Malcolm had been around for a few years but was incredibly friendly and kept asking to come inside, so his caretaker/foster couldn’t say no. Malcolm is FIV+ and FeLV+ Upon intake to Lulu’s he had bloodwork done that showed he was healthy enough to have the dental he desperately needed.

ABOUT:
If only Malcolm could tell us his story. His foster said he was one of the dominant males in the neighborhood prowling the neighborhood for about 5 years before he was neutered. Malcolm is both FIV and Feline Leukemia (FeLV) positive. Because FeLV is easily transmitted to other cats, he will need to be an only cat or live in a home with another FeLV positive cat. The lifespan of cats with FeLV can vary widely, but overall is unknown, so he will need a special adopter willing to love him for whatever time this world grants him.

Malcolm is very low energy and likes to spend most of his time perfecting his napping skills. He likes his meals to be served on time and if you are late he will come get you and tell you that it is time. His foster used the following words to describe him: Gentlemanly, Sweet, Affectionate, Stoic, Quiet.

Malcolm prefers to hide in unknown situations so he might take a little bit of time to warm up to his new family. His foster said he seems especially wary of teenage boys, so we aren’t sure if something happened in his years on the street to make him more nervous around males. He will likely be more attracted to females. Once he knows you he loves pets and cuddles and even likes to be held!

Malcolm does great with the female cat in the house. He loves to groom her and sleep with her, but he doesn’t do as well with males. He generally ignores the large and small breed dogs, but he will curl up next to them for a nap so he would do very well in homes with cat-friendly dogs. He will be most comfortable in an adults only home as he isn’t curious about new things and instead chooses to hide until they are over.

Do you have room in your home and heart for this special boy? The first step is to fill out our adoption application. More information and our adoption application can be found at www.luluslockerrescue.org.

More about this rescue

Lulu’s Locker Rescue is a nonprofit, volunteer-run companion animal rescue working to bring to light the plight of black cats and dogs in shelters as well as the misconceptions surrounding FIV cats. We aim to lower the euthanasia rate of these animals by educating the public and providing foster care as we seek out permanent homes. We are committed to the protection of the misjudged and wrongly stereotyped through compassion and respect, which we believe both animals and human beings deserve.

We are based out of Frankfort, IL, and rescue cats and dogs in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs.
