Sprinkles I wonder if people think about how we feel when we are surrendered to the shelter. Maybe not if they are ready to give us away. The first time I was at the HSHC was in December 2022, when my owner, who had had me for 1 year, decided she didn’t want me. Then I was adopted and lived with this family for two years, until my owner’s health began to decline. I am a solid grey, 4.5-year-old female DSH, and I am sad to be homeless again. I admit I wasn`t very sweet or friendly when I checked in on October 26, 2025. I was grouchy and did not want to cooperate. However, deep down, I know the folks here are only interested in taking good care of me. Yesterday, the interviewer lady (IL) stopped by my apartment. I was in my Kitty Kasa, behind a pillow, and she couldn’t see me. But wouldn’t you know, that didn’t stop her from baby-talking to me. How was I feeling? Didn’t I know I was a pretty girl? She’d sure like to meet me. The longer she stood there talking to me, the “curiouser” I got. Pretty soon, I peeked my head out from underneath the pillow. The more she sweet-talked me, the braver I felt. When she held out a finger for me to sniff, I succumbed to temptation and let her pet my neck and chin. Then I was out of my Kasa and head-butting her, purring, and pressing myself into her hands. It felt heavenly to receive so much attention. Of course, as soon as I heard a big noise outside the room, I dashed back into my Kasa. I hope this tells you that, given enough time, kindness, patience, and affection, you can certainly win my love. I am best suited to a home with kids 10 and older. I can’t wait to meet my forever family who will never surrender me again. I know my perfect match is out there, waiting to welcome me home. 12-9-25

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.
This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
