My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Oh my gosh!!! Can you even get over those cute lips?! Made for kissing!!!

Dewey Dew-Drop is a little nugget who was loved for his whole life. His person has become very ill, and is no longer able to care for him. It's a sad story, but we're determined to make it a happy ending because that's just what we do.

Dewey is an older, distinguished gentleman who grows sweeter by the day. Don't be fooled by the light of his eyes, this senior sees perfectly well and can find his humans anywhere for a back scratch. His only special requirement is an eye drop for his dry eyes at mealtime and he is good to go, such a happy guy. Dewey is the epitome of laid back.

He loves meal times and just plain ole' hanging out. He rarely barks and spends his days going with the flow. He loves a fly-by for a belly rub or behind the ear scratch and is off on his merry way- tail ALWAYS wagging- back to his dog bed to watch the squirrels through the window.

His main interests include: wet dog food, sunbathing, humans and taking short walks on the leash.

Dewey was loved a little TOO MUCH by his owner before she went into a nursing home and was a chunky monkey when he arrived at DREAM. He is working hard on slimming up his waist- aren't we all? We portion his dog food twice a day with the occasional treat of green beans---he remains hopeful for people food and spends meal times parked under the dinner table for anything humans drop.

After he eats he heads right to the door to let us know that he needs to do his business outside. We have been working on this and as long as his humans know his schedule and pay attention to his cues he does very well on potty training. After he sniffs around the yard for a bit he bounds inside like a puppy which is always a sight to see.

Due to a lack of dental care in his previous life, Dewey has lost all of his teeth. Less to brush! It does not stop him from eating things- just needs them moistened with water- and makes his smile even handsome.

Dewey would be a great addition to a home as an only dog or with other dachshunds. He is friendly, affectionate and has never met a stranger. His calming energy makes him a fan favorite with little kids and adults alike.

He gives back so much more than he needs and just looking at him can make your day! Bring Dewey into your family - you won't be sorry!

If you are interested in adopting Dewey, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Dewey's adoption fee is $300. All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Dewey will go to his / her new home microchipped, spayed/neutered, heartworm tested, up to date on vaccinations, and with all other medical needs addressed. Almost every dog's veterinary expenses exceed our adoption fees.

DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group. We focus on the metro Atlanta area and can assist throughout the state of Georgia. Since our rescue is entirely run and staffed by volunteers, our ability to travel long distances for adoptions is somewhat limited.
We focus on Georgia, but if you are in a neighboring state, we might be able to work something out - we'll expect you to do your part. DREAM does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back.
