My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This young sprite needs a very patient and experienced home, and for now we would prefer candidates with ABSOLUTELY NO CHILDREN! So, please read thoroughly.

Putt Putt is a 3 year old, strikingly handsome dachshund. He's got all the classic markings and physique. But poor Putt Putt...due to no fault of his own, he doesn't have much confidence and that comes out in a really bad way when he gets scared.

This little guy has bitten when he has been afraid. His fear presented when meeting new people and Putt Putt and his foster mom have worked very hard at expanding his trust and confidence. He can now meet new people slowly, working past this phase, to absolutely loves his people - adores them actually ... that is the people HE TRUSTS.

A professional trainer worked with his foster mom and him on exercises to continue to help Putt Putt improve his people meeting skill set. Putt Putt needs that calm confidence and leadership to help him get there. He adores his ball and is a great cuddle-bug for his foster parents, but alas, he still hates the vet and requires a muzzle for his medical attention.

We think he'd be great in a home that has a fenced yard for him and a lifestyle where he can be included in the fun. He's great with other doggos and would be a great companion to another dog that can show him the ropes, though he'd be fine as an only dog too.

Any busy household structure just isn’t a good fit for a dog who likes his routine and his quiet space. Adopter must understand that any introductions with new people need to be managed, monitored and go slow. Calm, patient leaders please apply!

This is what his foster home has to say....."After about 2 days in a new home, Putt Putt will be a wonderful & charming member of the family. He will simply need time to adjust, and learn he can trust his new people. He will need to get acclimated to visitors in a home, because he is protective of his people. Putt Putt is crate trained and housetrained. He just needs an experienced owner who will be patient with him while he acclimates."

He adores snuggling and lap time, and is so very loving. He is a lot of fun, and loves to play tug and fetch. He does seem to have a strong prey drive and even wants to chase the koi in our pond!

We are here to mentor you on how to care for a dog like Putt Putt, one that will return the effort ten-fold and become the companion of a lifetime for a lucky someone. Is it you? Let's work together.

If you are interested in adopting Putt Putt, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Putt Putt's adoption fee is $450. All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Putt Putt will go to his / her new home microchipped, spayed/neutered, heartworm tested, up to date on vaccinations, and with all other medical needs addressed. Almost every dog's veterinary expenses exceed our adoption fees.

DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group. We focus on the metro Atlanta area and can assist throughout the state of Georgia. Since our rescue is entirely run and staffed by volunteers, our ability to travel long distances for adoptions is somewhat limited. We focus on Georgia, but if you are in a neighboring state, we might be able to work something out - we'll expect you to do your part. DREAM does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back.
