My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello! My name is Ralphie, like from A Christmas Story. I am about 4-6 years old and I came to CEBR on December 21st as a stray. When they found me, I was 31 pounds, with all my bones showing. I've slowly started to gain some weight, but I still have a way to go. They think that my stomach may have shrunk from being underfed and neglected for so long, so it's taken me awhile to build up the amount of food I can eat. I still sometimes get sick when I overdo it. I sometimes need some encouragement to eat my meals, but I love my Green Juju treats!

They tell me I’m a very good boy, since I'm super laid back and I love to give kisses, and I don't even bark or snore. I can sit, give paw, and shake—but I'll be looking for my treat in exchange please! My favorite thing is to cuddle on the couch, I’ll lay there with you for hours if you let me. I’d also love to be able to sleep in bed with you at night! I also like to play with my toys, with you and by myself. I chew hard and poke holes in my toys, so please keep an eye on me while I play, and then buy me more toys!

Although I was named after a character in A Christmas Story, winter does not seem to be my season. It might be that I have no fat to keep me warm, so I wear at least one coat every time I go out. I don't like to stay out long, I will do my business and go back to the door immediately. Sometimes, my foster parents have to let me warm up inside for a bit and then give it another go! I try to boycott going out during the rain and extreme cold, especially if the wind is blowing in my face. When the weather is a little warmer, around 35-40 degrees, I will venture out for a walk. I like to go at a meditative pace but will periodically prance. I’m curious about my environment and enjoy the walks when I’m not freezing my tush off!

I am almost completely house trained, but sometimes when I’m alone and nervous I poop in the house. My foster parents have me stay in my kennel when they’re not home so I don’t get as nervous.

I have only met one of my dog neighbors so far, but I seem to get along with dogs well. I did live with at least one other dog for a few years before coming to CEBR, so I might like a dog sibling.

I'm looking for a family who will cuddle with me, be patient, kind, and let me know I will be safe and well cared for, for many years. I have a lot of love to give and can't wait to meet you! - Ralphie
