History: Hocus spent the first 4 months of his life in a backyard with other dogs including his sister Pocus, in Manitoba.

Hi my name is Hocus. When I first got to Ontario I was very scared. I didn’t want my foster parents to touch me and I would nip out of fear. Since then, I have learnt to trust my foster parents and will now let them gently pet me around my face and chest. Sometimes I get overwhelmed and don’t want to be pet and will try to tell you by nipping, but I’m working on it and still learning to trust that I won’t be hurt. I may not have ever had a positive interaction with humans but I’m really coming around with my foster parents now that I know they are friendly!
I am a quick learner and have figured out sit and paw. My favourite thing is getting praised. I also love running and playing with my sister Pocus and foster sister. I am working on walking on a leash and have enjoyed my short walks! I really like my foster dog sister who has taught me many positive behaviours. I would really like to be in a home with a friend I can trust and learn from! I like my crate and sleep in there at night as well as a nap in the day. I really like to stick to a schedule! I don’t like being left alone for long periods of time and need someone to help me work on my separation anxiety. I am still a bit fearful and like to go slow when being introduced to new things. Since I grew up in a backyard I would really enjoy having a yard to play in. I would really love to find my forever home so I can finally adjust and find trusting and loving humans! I still have work to do and need someone patient but I am a very sweet boy.

Go meet their pets

The majority of our dogs are adopted before traveling to Canada. We are a foster based rescue, so a meet & greet can be arranged with some dogs that are already here.

More about this rescue

We are so much more than a dog rescue! We are a community of incredible volunteers with one goal in mind: To help dogs in need find a loving, forever home. We are moms and dads, sisters and daughters, sons and brothers from all walks of life. We have come together with one goal in mind: To help dogs that need it most. Those on death row, those lost, those hungry those broken-hearted. We will work and work and work until we find a family for each one of them. We will not stop until each one of our dogs has the one thing they wish for: the safety of a home and the love of a family. We are foster based. This means we do not have a facility, dogs are pulled from shelters and put in to comfortable homes until they are adopted. Each foster volunteer allows us to save one more dog and help him/her find a loving forever home. Since 2015, NDR has saved over 9500 dogs. These dogs are ALIVE today because of we cared and we worked and we cried and we pleaded and we drove and we checked and we advocated and we fought and we begged and, in the end, we made this possible without funding or paid staff. With no shelter or corporate sponsors. With nothing but the will of our amazing volunteers working together to help save the lives of the dogs we can help. We keep our heads down, we focus on what we need to do to help our dogs and we go to work. We have made a difference in the lives of those dogs that are fortunate enough to be ours.
