My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I love humans - if you give me some belly rubs or maybe a treat (I’ll even “sit” for you!) then we’ll be instant best friends. I’m very affectionate and sweet; TLRD calls me Brooke! I’m about 4 years old and 57 pounds of gorgeousness. I love to go on walks and I haven't been on a couch in a loooooong time, but I think I would REALLY love to snuggle with you on one if you’ll invite me. Want to meet me? I want to meet you! Please fill out an adoption application today! Oh, full disclosure, at the moment, I like some dogs, but not others so much. My trainer friends are helping me with that. Cats? They're not for me. I haven't been around kids, but I can be a bit rambunctious, so might do best with kids that won't get knocked over until I learn not to do that.

'It looks like we have another victim to Brooke's captivating eyes! Brooke has the ability to look at anyone with pure love in her eyes. Once she has you in her grasp, she's going to love you, whether you like it or not! Brooke loves humans, and all she wants to do is play and snuggle. When she's done, she'd love a long nap on a soft bed, or even curled up next to you. She's a real sweetie, and one of my favorites at The Red dog House'- Kathie, volunteer at The Red Dog House

We will schedule the home check once you have been approved. This may be done virtually.

Additional adoption info

All of our animals come fully vaccinated and spayed or neutered (if old enough), and microchipped. Puppies and kittens will be spayed/neutered and have all shots when they are old enough. There is an Adoption application, a quick phone interview to make sure it is a good fit, a meet and greet with the dog, then a home check, and an adoption contract. We ask for a $400 donation for adult dogs, and $500 for puppies at the time of adoption so that we can save other dogs from the shelter. More about this rescue

Dogs are man's best friend, but it is not always the other way around. The Little Red Dog was founded in memory of a little red American Pit Bull Terrier who did not make it. If you are familiar with the Michael Vick dog fighting case chronicled in The Lost Dogs: Michael Vick's Dogs and Their Tale of Rescue and Redemption. The Little Red Dog was brutally beaten to death by Vick and his cronies because she didn't want to fight.

The Little Red Dog rescues dogs; red, blue, tan, white, brown, black and all colors in between. We do not discriminate against ANY breed; that's because we are a real rescue, and we will help as many animals as we can. Our primary goal is to get them into loving homes. Our hope that some day all of them make it, but most of all, we will never forget the Little Red Dog and many others who did not.
