My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

AJ is located in TEXAS. He is available for in-state adoption or adoption and transport to another state. There are not enough homes for all the unwanted dogs down here, so he is willing to relocate for a good, loving, forever home.

AJ was an owner surrender. The son fell on hard times and left AJ with his parents. The parents wanted to rehome him because they had financial problems of their own and because he was not housetrained. However, we have not had any problems with him going potty in the house. He goes to the door when he wants out. AJ is a very handsome chihuahua weighing 10 pounds. He is an older guy, maybe around 8 years of age. AJ is a very good boy and not a stereotypical chihuahua. He is wary of new people but warms up with time. AJ is crate-trained and well-behaved in the house. He rides well in the vehicle, walks well on a leash, and comes when called. AJ is fairly quiet, he only barks when he wants to come back in the house after he goes outside. He spends most of his time lying on the couch or in his bed. He does like treats and he plays with other small dogs on occasion. He does get bossy and tries to dominate some of the larger male dogs. AJ is fine with other small dogs and would probably also do well with cats. AJ is small and delicate and must be protected from rough treatment by children or big dogs that could hurt him. He does get stepped on or run over occasionally. He must also be protected from raptors and other outdoor predators. AJ must be in the house as a loved member of the family. He must be walked on a leash and would like a fenced yard to explore and sun himself.

AJ is healthy. He is neutered, fully vaccinated (DAPPvL2, Bordatella, rabies), and microchipped. AJ is heartworm-negative and on monthly heartworm and flea prevention. He had a dental and his 4 upper incisors had to be removed. The rest of his teeth were in good shape. AJ did have some back problems when we first got him. The vet prescribed a daily anti-inflammatory (Meloxidyl) to help with the pain. AJ is now doing much better and only needs his medication on occasion. His back problems may have been associated with the stress of a new environment with a lot of other dogs. However, AJ does need dog steps to get on and off furniture and a bit of care when he is picked up to avoid hurting his back. Applicants must be able to afford refills of his medication (which is not expensive) and be able to take him to the vet as needed.

We would really love AJ to have a fabulous forever home and we will consider both in-state and out-of-state applications. His out-of-state adoption fee includes the cost of ground transport, and he can be transported almost anywhere within the continental United States. He is being fostered in Texas and cannot be transported until after he is adopted. Please send an email to 2manydogstx@gmail.com if you are interested in adopting this sweet boy.
