My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

COURTESY POST. Hello, my name is Piper and I am looking for a forever home. My owners had a baby and I am too scared of the infant to continue living happily in my home. So I hope to find a forever home with no babies now or in the future. (Those things are really loud and stinky) I am 5 years old and I am a lovebug. Some of my favorite things are sniffy walks (that's when we go for a walk together but my nose sets the pace), swimming, puzzle toys and toys that can be stuffed with food. I am an active girl who likes to do things with my people. I am sensitive to new, unfamiliar noises, and I am fearful of both cats and children. I like some dogs, but not all dogs. Kind of like you humans, you like some people but not all people. I was a big sister to 14 different foster puppies and I enjoyed that. I love being outside and, when it's sunny, I like to lay outside for hours. I am really smart, very food motivated, and I love training and learning new things. I know many commands, like sit, paw, lay down, "on your mat," touch, stay, wait, here, and I have a super reliable whistle recall. My favorite game to play is "find it." I am loyal and loving. I just need to find my someone. My person who will spend time with me, teach me new things and love me for life. I am crate trained and I am able to be left alone without destroying stuff. I just love snoozing on the couch and I will admit that I'm a bit of a bed hog at night. So let's go buy a king-size bed and get this deal done. I need you, someone loving and nurturing, patient and understanding. I am living in boarding until someone falls in love with me. Could that be you? Please apply today! Adoption fee: $80. Adopt a pair: $120. Fee includes testing, deworming, vaccinations, spay/neuter, 30 days of free pet insurance, one session with a certified behavior trainer and microchip.

NOTE ABOUT BREED LABELING: Visual breed identification of dogs is unreliable and usually inaccurate. So, for most of our adoptable dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

Why is labeling a dog such a big deal? A label will stick with a dog for the rest of its life. A label can mean discrimination, losing its home or even death. Labels are a problem for the dogs when we, as the local experts on animals, allow adopters, politicians and community members to think that the label we assign can predict who that dog is or will be.

Adoption Process:
Complete the application at www.pawsforliferescue.org. We then arrange a location, date and time for you to meet some pets. If the meeting goes well and everyone is happy, you begin the mandatory, minimum two-week adjustment period with the pet as part of your family. You will pay the non-refundable adoption fee at the start of the two-week adjustment period. This pending period allows your new dog or cat time to adjust to their new home, new people, new routine, etc., and for you to decide if it's a match and the right pet for you. At the end of two weeks (some people extend the adjustment time as needed and that's fine too), if everyone is happy, then we finalize the adoption. Feel free to email if you have any questions.
