A little bit about me...
Hello prospective families, I'm Wink! I found myself lost running the streets when I met this awesome dog named Khaleesi, who guided us to the shelter to get us some help finding new forever homes. I am an extremely shy guy that will be looking for a home that has tons of patience to continue to help me gain confidence and come out of my shell. I'm not one for lots of commotion, as I tend to shut down and run to my safe spaces, but since I came into my foster home, I have made huge strides towards becoming a more out-going guy. I know I will take a while to settle into a new home, but if you saw me in action in my foster home, I have lots of promise. My best-friend/foster brother and I love to run around the backyard together, take walks together, and then relax with our foster-dads while watching movies on the patio. I do have a medical issue that's requires me to take an enzyme powder with each meal to ensure I absorb all the nutrients in my food. Ever since I started my medication, I got back to my expected weight and have steadily increased my stamina to live a normal life. I am now ready to move on to my new family and earn the security and warmth that comes with it.

The highlights...
I'm a runner, for fun and when scared.
I take a little bit to warm up to new people
I am dog selective and seem to prefer smaller dogs.
I love hard bones that keep me occupied for hours.

My perfect home would include...

Someone who understands that I can be selective with the types of dogs I like to interact with. During my stay at the shelter I have been introduced to different types of dogs, and it seems that I am very dog selective. I tend to gravitate towards dogs that are smaller than me, and those who are respectful

Patience! I am very shy and still working on coming out of my shell.

Experience with medical cases to ease the mind of my shelter friends that my issues are taken seriously.

A quieter home free of screaming kids and high energy dogs.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Please be advised we only adopt to AZ residents. We make a commitment to all of our animals. So while we appreciate your interest, we ask that you be a local resident to adopt. We do not always know the full background of each animal and sometimes personalities are not fully shown until a few days in the home. If for whatever reason you cannot keep the animal, we appreciate the animal being returned to our facility. It is costly and time consuming to return an animal from out of state. Please check your local animal shelter to find a forever friend near your area.
We do have adoption fees that are reflective to our adoptable cats and dogs. They will slightly vary depending on the cat or dog. However most of the adoptable pets have the same adoptable fee. We ask that any prospective adopter to come to our location and complete an adoption application. This will be reviewed by a qualified adoption counselor who will sit and visit to interview the adopter on what they are looking for to place the adoptable pet in a forever home. Once approved for adoption, there is paperwork to complete and the adoptable cat or dog will be able to go home that day

More about this shelter

Sun Valley Animal Shelter, Inc., is an Arizona nonprofit corporation with 501(c)3 status which operates a No-Kill shelter in Glendale, Arizona, generally serving the western portion of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The organization was founded in 1991 by a group of Sun City area residents as a foster-based program to provide adoption opportunities for homeless and abandoned dogs and cats. The current facility was built in 1995 and can house 100+ dogs and 100+ cats. The organization receives no government funding and is supported by income from our thrift store profits, adoption fees, membership dues, donations and bequests. We recently received a grant to assist in the construction of a new medical/surgical center at the facility.

The animals taken into our care are housed in a clean, secure environment and are spayed/neutered, microchipped, given all necessary shots and a physical exam. Dedicated volunteers are invaluable in assisting with the daily care and nurturing of our dogs and cats prior to finding a loving home. We are proud to note that in the last several years we have increased adoptions from approximately 300 animals per year to over 1000 animals per year.
