My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

They call me a purebred "Bully" but all I want is your love. Athena had been brought in to Lodi Animal Services as a stray with her boyfriend. Her owners were made aware that they were in the shelter but refused to take Athena back. Her previous owner had bred her many, many times and sold all of her puppies for profit. He refused to pick her up when he picked up the other dog because she is now too old (at 5 years young). Over the course of four years Athena was neglected and used as an incubator for her previous owner's pocket. She was past her prime and all used up.

Check out Athena's cutest moments in her playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLVb0fq1O6CwmfTKLWdExr_tb3wSORm49t

While in foster care, Athena has begun to learn what real love is. She now lives inside in a nice warm house, she is receiving the proper nutrition (when dropped off at Animal Services she was notably skinny with all her ribs showing). She loves to cuddle and spend time on the couch. Athena has the cutest motorcycle bark that sounds like a motorcycle engine flooding. She truly is such a sweet girl once you build even a little trust with kindness and treats.

Athena prefers female humans and only the most submissive male dogs, but warms up to male humans as well with some love and patience. When she first arrived in foster care, she would cower when the resident man was in the room. After a couple weeks of love and patience, she was cuddled up so sweetly with him on the couch. When first meeting new dogs she can be a jerk and left to her own choices she will choose violence, but with slow introductions to calm, very submissive males she does amazing. She has made fast friends with fellow foster Liam, a male of similar size and they are absolutely the cutest pair. Together, though, they are definitely troublemakers so Athena would also do great as the only dog without any friends to lead astray in mischief.

Athena has now been spayed, microchipped and vaccinated and is ready to go home. She is looking for her forever home with a family that will love her for her. Athena is now crate trained, knows basic commands, and walks well on a leash but is very excited (likely she was never been walked in her previous living situation). She is otherwise a chill couch potato who is looking for a loving home to finally relax in.

All Better World Rescue dogs qualify for private and/or group training at no additional cost to help ensure a successful adoption. To meet Athena, fill out our short adoption application: www.betterworldrescue.org/adoption-application Once an application is filled out, our volunteers will reach out to you within one business day to answer any questions and schedule a meet and greet.
