My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

FIRST STEPS: Please visit https://www.save-a-mutt.org/adoption-application/ to fill out an application - a Petfinder Inquiry is not the adoption process. We don't do meet and greets until applications have been approved. All our dogs are located IN Washington State - we are a local foster based rescue and no transport from another state required. :) Thanks!

WARNING! Lover Boy Alert! Oh my... Cosmo is such a sweetheart. He just wants to be loved, and cuddled and adored. TV time will have cuddled up next to you on the couch. He's a big active boy - 90 pounds and he will be two years old in April. Shockingly, DNA told us he is a quarter Shepherd, a quarter bully breed and then 50% a ton of other breeds - Aussie, Border Collie, Cattle Dog, etc... that explains his spotty boots.

Cosmo's family had a change of life and he was returned to us after about a year and half in his home. He lived with another active dog - and was fostered with oodles of dogs. We think a family with previous dog experience would be great. His family fostered for Save-A-Mutt. They said... Sometimes Cosmo doesn’t know his own strength and overzealousness. In his excitement, he can be happy mouthy. He's quick to take corrections from other dogs and humans. With puppies and young dogs, he will be ready to play at any moment. He will lay on the floor and let them run and jump around him. He will go outside and stay low so that they will chase and run after him. He’s very playful and looks like a galloping pony across the yard. He’s insistent on pets and physical attention. He’s a wonderful snuggler on the couch after a long day of play. He needs physical activity. He is energized by cooler air and will stay in the snow as long as allowed. He snores in deep sleep. He has a lot of puppy in him still. Zoomies at 90 lbs!

Cosmo ideal home has a fully fenced yard or property and an active family. He has been around children at events on walks, but because of his 'bigness' we think older children would be better. He does sleep in a crate at night. His 'go potty' is brilliant and he runs to a spot to 'go potty.' He is crate trained and housebroken. Because in a previous foster home, Cosmo was VERY interested in their cat, we think a feline free home is best.

Cosmo is great on walks and gets into the stride of staying by your side after the first few blocks. He is most joyous and playful at the beach. He will run and play in the surf for as long as you let him. He plays well with balls and sticks and rubber toys. He tends to chew the strings off rope toys if not watched, but loves tug.

Cosmo is neutered, microchipped and fully vaccinated. He goes home with a goody bag including collar/leash, toys, chews, Kong, and more. You will receive all medical records, microchip transfer form and other paperwork at the time of adoption. Cosmo is covered under pet insurance and it can be transferred. He’s had mild dermatitis and skin allergies that have been easily cleared with one round of an allergy shot. He has shown a reaction to food with poultry and fish and lamb. Paw licking, excessive scratching, ear discomfort. He’s currently the beef and sweet potato food from Kirkland Costco brand with an honest foods freeze dried mix “gravy” and additional vegetables as add ins.

Save-A-Mutt requires a training contract and $100 refundable deposit (depending on previous dog experience).

Adoptions take place in Stanwood.
Adoption fee is $175.
Save-A-Mutt is a registered 501c3.

Please note, we have approximately a 300 mile adoption radius - Portland OR area and Vancouver BC is the farthest north. We don’t ship dogs, once approved you must pick them up in Snohomish County, WA. Canadian adopters must be able to cross the border to pick up any adopted dogs.
