My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! My name is Taeko, and I am IN LOS ANGELES looking for my forever home! I was rescued from the dog meat trade in South Korea by the DoVE Project. My fate would have been to live in fear and distress, watching dogs being led to slaughter for human consumption. DoVE Project heard about me, and now I am looking for my forever family!

BEHAVIOR and Background: Taeko is currently being fostered in Los Angeles. He spent the last couple of weeks with a family that was not ready for a puppy. Part of DoVE's adoption process includes a two-week trial. While in the two-week trial, it became clear that Taeko was not the right fit for his adopters.

Taeko is a high-energy puppy. He is affectionate and cheerful. He loves people and wants to greet everyone that he comes across as long as he approaches first! Taeko is fond of children and loves to engage with them. He also gets along very well with dogs but can step over boundaries in his excitement.

With the right amount of exercise and routine, Taeko will thrive! So far, Taeko has been great on the leash, has been great with potty training, and is very affectionate and playful.

PREVIOUS BACKGROUND: Taeko was rescued from the horrific incident in Yangpyeong where 1500 starved dog bodies were found in a single house. Reportedly, the perpetrator of this heinous crime had been collecting dogs that were no longer able to reproduce, and left them there to starve to death; he had been paid a small sum of money by breeders to dispose of dogs that were no longer able to breed.

The perpetrator not only starved numerous abandoned dogs to death but also sent several of the bigger and fatter dogs to the slaughterhouse. Before Taeko's rescuers, led by CARE, arrived at the scene, the perpetrator had hidden Taeko, intending to send him to the slaughterhouse. His rescuers however refused to leave without Taeko and continued to search for him in the deplorable conditions. Eventually, the perpetrator brought him back. Taeko was rescued on March 6, 2023.

ABOUT JINDOS
Jindos are known for their fierce loyalty, high intelligence, rarely barking, and playful nature. They make great indoor family dogs, as Jindos are clean, easily housetrained, and faithful to family members. They are also mid-level active and love being socialized at dog parks, going on hikes, and joining the family on trips.

ABOUT SHELTER STRESS
Dogs who have lived in shelters for a long period of time develop behaviors due to an environment that is loud, chaotic, and stressful, even in the best shelters in the US. Dogs in shelters have limited socialization exposure to people and urban environments. DoVE dogs also come from a traumatic background such as dog meat farms and slaughterhouses. While many of our dogs acclimate within a few months with consistency, structure, and patience, some of our more sensitive dogs can take longer to rehabilitate. It's important to note that these sensitive dogs are even more attuned to human emotions and behavior, making for a deeper connection human-dog connection. DoVE Project is committed to helping our adopters desensitize and socialize our dog meat trade survivors.

*********************************
DoVE Project operates a shelter in South Korea, where our dogs stay until they are matched with an adopter. In the US, our dogs stay in foster homes or in boarding, as we do not have a physical facility. These dogs are identified with "in LA" in their names.

Please note that we only adopt our pups in the Southern California area. Please check our website for more information regarding our adoption process, our mission, and our adoption application: https://www.dove-project.org/adoption-process
