My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Jack is a 4 year old chihuahua who came to CARA when we pulled him from Lee County Animal control. Jack was found as a stray and unfortunately was found to be positive for heartworm disease. Jack has since completed his Heartworm treatment but needs to be retested in 6 months, as the heartworms are still slowly dying inside of him - so in turn he is still testing positive.

Jack sadly had such severe heartworm disease that he developed pulmonary hypertension a pretty typical side effect of severe heartworm load. He is thankfully doing so well, with medication on board and it is possible the hypertension will go away completely. He could also have to manage that life-long.

If you do not know much about heartworm disease please research to be fully aware of the life long damage it can cause to a dog, internally. Thankfully most dogs do very well post heartworm treatment and they deserve to live long happy lives with mindful owners!

The rescue took Jack to the cardiologist where we had a pleasant visit and were told Jack is doing well post HW treatment, despite the hypertension. Mainly we are looking to find an adopter that is going to keep Jack under low activity for at least 6 months (or until he test negative for HW's)

Jack is in the most amazing foster home. They have taken care of him through his heartworm treatment, neuter and dental. Now Jack is ready to find a home!

We have learned while he has been in foster, that he is a little sour patch kid......but more sweet than sour! Jack likes to hoard socks. He will exchange your sock for a treat! Jack likes dogs, but can be scared of big ones at times. Jack is okay with cats. Jack is best with older kids. Jack NEEDS a fenced yard for his safety.

Jack is so sweet and affectionate, and has many little quirks! He is not okay being crated. He would adapt well to most homes! If interested in learning more about Jack please call or email us! Or simply apply if you would like the opportunity to meet this special guy!!
