My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Must adopt with bond mate, Cheeto

Hey there, I'm FRITO, the sweet and cautious bunny with a heart as tender as my plush fur. Cheeto and I are overjoyed that we were rescued from the harsh cold last January. Our bond is unbreakable, and we're a packaged deal – you've got to adopt both of us!

I'm a bit more on the timid side compared to my adventurous brother, Cheeto. It takes me some time to build trust, but once I do, I'm all in. When someone new enters our space, I cautiously peek my head out of my tunnel, assessing if they're a friend or foe. If it's a familiar face, especially one with food, I'll come out and greet you. If you're a stranger, I defer to Cheeto's judgment – he's my trusted guide. Once he gives the green light, I venture out to explore and see things for myself. I might be shy, but I'm also curious and love to discover new hiding spots and climb around during our free roam sessions.

Supervision is key for us during free roam – we have a tendency to chew cords if left unsupervised. Bunny-proofing, especially securing those cords, allows us to explore freely without any worries. Tunnels and boxes are our toys of choice. We go through them, zoom around them and sit on top of them, looking down at our world. And after a day of adventure, we love snuggling up together on our blanket.

Willow branches and Snak Shack huts always capture our attention. We love munching on them. We're not picky eaters when it comes to veggies; cilantro, parsley, salads, and bananas are all welcomed treats. Oxbow rabbit pellets keep us nourished and happy.

My coat, like Cheeto's, is incredibly soft and requires weekly brushing, but it's generally low-maintenance. I might be a bit more reserved and less affectionate, but my foster mom insists that it makes my moments of affection all the more special. You've got to earn my love, but when you do, a gentle nudge and a head pet are in store. I've been described as very sweet, and I believe in quality over quantity when it comes to sharing my affection.

Loud noises and quick movements make us a tad sensitive, likely a lingering effect from our time outdoors. To create a calm space in our room, our foster mom uses a white noise machine playing "calming spa sounds."

We did well with our former foster mom's older daughter, and with a little time to adjust, we believe we'd thrive in any loving home. Our foster mom thinks larger dogs might be scary for us, we've met a cat without much fuss – curiosity over fear. Life for Cheeto and me is filled with fun, and we'd love for you to join us on this journey!

Adoption fee for Pair: $150.00 (+tax)

RRMN bunnies are all vetted, spayed/neutered, and microchipped. All bunnies are fostered in private homes where they are socialized and ready to become indoor companion house pets. RRMN is a non-profit rescue group operated 100% by volunteers, and 100% of donations/adoption fees go to the direct care of our animals. Due to their very special behavioral needs, we do not advocate for our rescue rabbits to serve as Emotional Support Animals (ESAs).  We are unable to provide any documentation or certification for an ESA.

If you have any questions or are interested in meeting or adopting this bunny, the first step is to complete an adoption application found on our website:  http://www.rabbitrescueofmn.com.  For the safety of our rescue bunnies, our protocol requires a home-visit before placement.  Therefore, we are unable to facilitate adoptions that exceed an hour and a half of travel time from the Twin Cities area.

Go meet their pets

We are a foster based Rescue and do not have a shelter location. You must have an approved application on file before an official meet-and-greet can occur. However, we regularly hold public events where anyone is welcome to stop by and meet some bunnies! All events can be found under the "Events" tab on our website.

More about this rescue

Rabbit Rescue of MN is a 501(c)3 non-profit rabbit rescue. Our mission is somewhat different than that of many other rescues as we take in sick, abused, neglected, abandoned and unwanted domestic rabbits, as well as rabbits from the public that are no longer wanted. We fundraise in order to get proper vetting and then focus on rehabilitation to ready our rabbits for their forever homes.

We are 100% volunteer-based and have no paid staff. All of our rescue rabbits are cared for in private foster homes where they are properly housed and receive love and socialization. We do not advocate housing our rescue rabbits in pet stores of any kind. Prior to adoption we screen our applicants thoroughly including a background check and a visit to our applicant's home to ensure that our rescue rabbits will be properly housed in a well-ventilated, well-lit and space appropriate area. Our mission includes educating first time rabbit families on the proper housing, exercise, diet and medical care.

Our rescue rabbits are all wellness checked, spayed/neutered and microchipped prior to adoption. We pride ourselves on informing the public that domestic rabbits are “exotic” pets/family members and require very specific care, medical attention and housing, as well as a space in the home where they can be part of the family.
