My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

T8R (pronounced Tater) is a hypoallergenic 6 year-old Morkie (Maltese/Yorkshire Terrier) mix rescued from a local shelter euthanasia list. Due to past abuse T8 (Tate) is terrified of new people, but once T8 gets to know you, he's a sweetie pie who gives kisses and lets you pick him up. Due to his high anxiety, this boy is looking for a quiet and calm forever home with a loving and patient owner.  One that will work thru his issues and not give up on him, as the process of learning to trust might be a long one.  Ideally T8R's new owner would be a female, since T8 was abused by a man. Please NO children or large dogs. Loud voices, loud laughing, screaming, and all other loud noises can trigger T8 to get snappy out of fear, even towards those he loves. Large dogs cause him to go ballistic with nonstop barking and lunging, and it is very difficult to redirect this behavior. T8R gets along with small dogs his size that are friendly, but he can become protective of his food, treats, and toys out of fear they will be taken away, so he would prefer to be an only dog with a possibility of small dog play dates. T8R is not destructive when left home alone and is mostly housetrained, but occasionally might have an accident.  Although T8 is still a bit fearful of the leash, he has made some progress with his foster mom. Regular grooming will likely need to take place under sedation. Chasing balls is something he really enjoys! Bringing them back...not so much. If you want a snuggly dog that sits in your lap, T8R is NOT your guy, as he prefers to sleep on the floor next to you.

To help T8 through his fears, the adopter will need to agree to meet with a trainer prior to adoption. This will probably take several visits, so the adopter needs to be willing to go slow and work at T8's pace. Adoptions for T8R are limited to within 50 miles of the Omaha/Council Bluffs area, so he can continue to take advantage of free training from our certified positive reinforcement trainer.

The suggested adoption donation for T8R is $300.  We are a 501c3 organization which means that your donation may be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. Your donation goes toward the high cost of veterinary care for our animals in rescue, as well as providing supportive services to animals in homes.

Information about the adoption process: All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application is approved, we will put you in touch with the dog’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the pet. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver.

If this pet is not spayed or neutered at the time of adoption due to limited vetting availability, a voucher will be given to the adopter to take the pet to be altered at NHS free of charge. Alterations are REQUIRED for all Muddy Paws adoptions. The contract states the alter must be done within ONE month of the adoption date or adopter will be in breach of contract. Adopter is required to provide proof of alter to Muddy Paws Rescue immediately after procedure complete. Thank you in advance for your compliance.

Please Note: We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each dog, based on the dog’s needs. If you and the dog are not a good match, we will help you select another dog, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months.

More about this rescue

Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue, Inc. is a not for profit organization formed in 2014 by a small group of devoted animal lovers, in the Council Bluffs/Omaha area, with many years of rescue experience wanting to make a difference in the lives of dogs. Our rescue focuses on small breed dogs, less than 35 pounds, of any age. It is all volunteer based, and all of our rescue dogs are living in the homes of our volunteers.
Our rescue is unique in that we offer supportive services, such as education and training, to owners considering relinquishing their pet in an effort to try to keep the dog in their home whenever possible. We also educate and offer placement assistance to owners attempting to rehome their pets through social media sites, which can often be risky for the pets as well as the owners.
