My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

-Written by Dixie Chic, a 1.5-year-old 50lb female White Shepherd mix.
-------------------------------------------

Bad things happen to good dogs. Why...I don't know. My name is Dixie Chic, a name I recently acquired and rather like. I can't remember what my name used to be...or if I even had one. I wasn't well cared for in my past. Why? Once again I have no idea. I was actually pretty neglected. I cannot say for sure, but I am almost positive I spent most of my short life as a stray. I spent most days just trying to survive. You cannot imagine how hard nights can be when you are all alone, and a former shell of yourself. You cannot imagine how long days seem when you are starving and exhausted and yet you have to push on. You have to keep pushing because maybe by some crazy chance, you will come upon your happily ever after and it won't just be a mirage.

I eventually ended up being picked up and taken to the animal shelter. Things got better for me in some ways. I got daily meals, I had shelter, and always had access to water. I also got to be around people..which I LOVE despite not having the best past. However, they got worse when I went unclaimed and realized that this might be the end for me. I might never get to be part of a family. I may never find my best friend in a kid. I may never get to lie by a warm fire. I may never make it to my next birthday. I was never really loved in my past, and it sucked to find out my life would soon be over never knowing any of that. And all because whoever had me first didn't care enough to make sure I got the life I deserved.

Thankfully, my story didn't end in that shelter though. A foster family with this rescue stepped up for me, and I got to start my new leash on life! <3

I would consider myself to be a pretty chill girl. I am not boring though. If you get me inside, you will see me have spurts of playfulness and do zoomies all throughout the yard. Then, I will happily come back inside and pass out. I am curious about toys but never had them in my past life. So, I haven't really played with them yet. Maybe one day I will. Since toys don't really interest me right now, fetch isn't really a game that calls to me. While I am usually a calm and chill girl, I do LOVE water. You will see me turn into a puppy again and splash around and have a blast. I also enjoy going on walks and do well on the leash. I have never been hiking, but I do believe it is something I would enjoy.

I saw a lot of things on my travels, but they were through different eyes. I was living the life of a stray...just trying to make it to the next day. I think I would love to get the chance to explore with my family. To know that I have them right beside me, and get to experience new things with them...that would be so neat. I also enjoy getting to meet new people and am friendly with them. I do well on car rides, and am quite calm on them.

I did well when meeting all the other dogs in my foster home. I enjoy their companionship and will even lightly play with them sometimes. I am not a crazy player though and don't seem dependent on them. I feel if my new family were home a lot, that I would do just fine as an only dog. I do well around cats and ignore them. I love the kids in my foster home and am pretty gentle with them.

That is all I have to share about myself. I really hope that we are a match. In case you are interested in me, the app to adopt me can be found at https://www.emailmeform.com/.../hx000BP7nbQvjHX49Uur80FV3

Please I am begging you though, only apply to adopt me if you can keep me forever. If you can't keep me through ALL of life's changes, don't be the one that makes me have to be passed around a few months/years down the line. That just isn't fair to me.

I would NEVER give up on you, so please don't give up on me. I want to be your forever...not your until dog.

FROM HER FOSTER MOM 🐾 ↓

~Dixie is a well-mannered young dog that very much enjoys spending time with her people. She especially loves kids and with her calm and gentle demeanor, I think she could be trusted around kids of all ages. She’s so happy to be part of a family now that she just wants to soak it all up. Gone are the days of not knowing where her next meal will come from, of being out in the rain and cold, of being attacked by other stray dogs. She will know nothing but love from here on out and you can see in her eyes how grateful she is for this second chance at life ❤️

Dixie is a very friendly girl that easily adapts to her environment. I think she could fit into just about any type of home~
