My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

LONG-TIMER ALERT — AND WE MEAN A REAL LONGTIMER

‼ï¸֝ YEARS — HIS ENTIRE LIFE IN FOSTER CARE‼️

THERE HAS TO BE THE PERFECT HOME OUT THERE FOR THIS SPECIAL BOY — PLEASE SHARE FAR AND WIDE!!❤️

Meet Sam. Sam is a sweet but timid dog and our longest resident at 7 years . Sam came to us as a mangy 6 week old baby with his siblings back in July of 2017. He was adopted but sadly was returned due to his fears at around 6 months old. With a little patience he would be a great calm addition to the family. Everything scares Sam until he's sure it's not going to hurt him. Sam does great with other dogs after he gets to know them. He's a little snappy if they are in his face the first week he's trying to adjust to his new environment. Sam is very happy and playful with other dogs after he knows they are not gonna hurt him and he's a little more comfortable in his new home. Sam would do best in a calmer without children/teens but he does currently and live in a home with a toddler and does just fine. Even though Sam is a Shy/skittish boy, he warms up slowly. Sam has gone from a dog that would never let you touch him to enjoying the company of his people once he's comfortable and settled. Sam loves a game of chase and will now even paw at his peoples hand.  Sam loves a good game of fetch outside and to go on walks through the neighborhood. Sam really has grown to love attention. Sam is house and crate trained. He absolutely adores his foster dad. Sam is 7 years old and 30 lbs. He's a terrier mix and is utd, hw negative (tested below detectable levels) and neutered! Sam has been in foster care so so long we know there has to be a home out there for this special boy. With a little patience you will have the best buddy. As much as the foster loves this boy they know his perfect forever family is out there that he truly deserves. Please consider giving sweet Sam a chance. You won’t be disappointed!

More about this rescue

Wags and Whiskers is a FOSTER based small rescue along the Gulf Coast. We take in dogs from local shelters, strays and from individuals who are in need of help. We can only take in dogs that we have a foster space available for and that space is limited due to the shear number of unwanted dogs in our area. Our primary veterinarian is Dr. David Martin at Parkway Animal Hospital. He oversees all medical treatment. All dogs are current on vaccinations, dewormed, heartworm tested if they are over 6 months of age and are altered before adoption. PARKWAY ANIMAL HOSPITAL DOES NOT HOUSE OUR DOGS ONLY PROVIDE MEDICAL TREATMENT! We have an adoption process that consist of an online application that can be emailed to you, reference check, meet and greet and home visit. Adoptions will not be finalized until all procedures listed have been completed. We do not adopt on a first come first serve basis but to the best home for that particular animal when there are multiple applicants.
