My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Ledger and I am the sweetest 5 year old. I'm a dog friendly and baby/kid friendly German shepherd. I'm so gentle and great around babies and kids. I'm affectionate and wants nothing more than to show my love and appreciation to my people. I'm playful, but I settle down easily and don’t require a lot of stimulation. I'm eager to please and am great with dogs of all sizes. I sleeps great through the night. I'm potty trained and generally low maintenance. I love walks, but will gladly be a couch potato and snuggle up next to you, although I'm good about not getting on furniture if it’s not allowed. I'm a sucker for belly rubs. I have surprisingly soft fur for a shepherd and pull my ears together to form a triangle in the cutest way. I do bark at other dogs on walks and sometimes people, and I needs slow introductions with people, but then I warm up in no time.

I ended up at the Contra Costa shelter in Martinez in December, and for the crime of being scared in the shelter environment, I was given a death sentence. Luckily, Martina Animal Rescue saved me, but despite 4 people offering to foster me, only one followed through. Then she said her work schedule changed after two weeks, so I was placed into boarding. While in boarding, I developed “happy tail” from repeatedly wagging my tail on the cinder blocks in my kennel. As a result, I had to have part of my tail amputated. But all of these setbacks haven't gotten me down. I'm just a gem of a dog and have a heart of gold. I have been through so much and all I really want is a home and family of my very own.

If you’re looking for a laid back dog who is the sweetest and most forgiving dog you’ve ever met, look no further than me.

If you want to know more about me or meet me in person please contact Martina Animal Rescue at martinaanimalrescue@yahoo.com. I’m located in Northern CA.

Love, Ledger
