Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Abby was brought to the shelter originally in 2019 from a home where she was too rough with children. She had lived with them for a year. She was adopted shortly after, but returned to the shelter when her behavior started to get out of hand and her owners felt like they could not handle her. She really seems to prefer women and acts aggressively towards men trying to handle her. She would NOT be good in a household with children as she tends to resource guard. She is picky about grooming as well, and does not like her nails/paws handled. She will need a special person with big dog experience to take her home, as she will not fit in with other pets in the home.

Dog/puppy Adoption fees:
$150.00 dollars for a dog that has been at the shelter less than 30 days. $125.00 dollars if here longer than 30 days. Senior (6 years or older) dogs are $50.00.

Cat/kitten Adoption Fees: $50.00 for cats and kittens who have been available for adoption under 30 days; $35.00 for cats and kittens who have been available for adoption over 30 days.

All adoptions require an application. Reference checks are made, landlord verification is needed, and Vet references are checked. All dogs/cats must be spayed and neutered that live in the home. A $50.00 dollar deposit is required for puppies/kittens that are to young at the time of adoption for the spay/neuter.

All dogs/puppies made available have current Vaccinations, heartworm tested, frontline, wormed, micro-chipped and spayed/neutered age permitted.

All cats/kittens made available have current vaccinations, FIV tested, frontline, wormed, micro-chipped and spayed/neutered age permitted.

Dogwood Animal Shelter is a non-profit, no-kill shelter.

Since its infancy, compassionate, like-minded volunteers have been the driving force behind Dogwood Animal Shelter. Through auctions and sales, a handful of dedicated people raised enough money to build its first, albeit small facility and was established as a 501(c) 3 in 1976. It was filled beyond capacity almost immediately.

The shelter is funded entirely from donations and proceeds from their Dogwood Animal Shelter Thrift Store.

After years of saving, planning and busting at the seams with fur-babies, in 2005 it was time to build a new facility with their own in-house clinic! Under the direction of Dr. John Reinhold and coupled with a very dedicated and gifted team of Veterinarians and staff, Dogwood Animal Shelter continues to offer low cost spays and neuters to the public as well as services to their shelter buddies; services to approximately 2,000 dogs and cats yearly!

Dogwood Animal Shelter began their journey of being a successful no-kill shelter in 1997, and since then has saved over 40,000 lives!
