My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi there! I'm Ellie, a bag of sugar who's been hanging out at the shelter for a good three years now. It's been quite the journey for me, with knee surgeries and all the stress of shelter life. As a result, I've become a bit defensive around strangers. But don't worry, the folks here are working hard to help me overcome my fears and realize that strangers can actually be fun. That's why I've got a special adoption process.

I might not be the most outgoing pup right off the bat, but with a little time and patience, I'm learning to trust new people. Right now, I've got this routine for meeting folks comfortably. It usually takes a couple of meetings before I fully warm up, but once I do, I'm incredibly loyal and affectionate. There's nothing I love more than snuggling up next to my favorite humans and basking in all the love and attention they can give.

Besides being a certified snuggle bug, I'm also a big fan of naps and tasty treats. You'll often find me curled up in a cozy spot, catching some Z's, or eagerly awaiting a snack or two. Oh, and word of advice: I might just hog the couch, so make sure you've got a big one!

I know I might need a bit of extra time and patience, but I truly believe there's a perfect family out there for me. If you're in search of a loyal and loving companion who'll keep you company and snuggle up with you at night, well, look no further! Swing by and meet me today to see just how special I am.

*Just a heads up, the way I behave here at the shelter might not be exactly how I'll act in a home environment. Dog behavior can change once they find their forever family. These are just the observations from my time at the SPCA of SWMI.*

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Adopting an animal is a long term commitment and is therefore a serious decision which should be given ample consideration. A furry companion is a delight, but make sure that you understand the obligation of ownership as well.

Do you know how much yearly vet visits cost - and food, and toys? The ASPCA estimates the annual cost of a large dog to be $780, and a cat is $575. Of course the monetary commitment fluctuates somewhat depending on an animal's size and specific medical needs, but we can guarantee that you will be spending a significant amount on him each year. Do you have time to exercise with your pet? Some dogs have more energy than others, but most would benefit from daily walks. Even cats are better off when their owners are able to set aside daily time for play. Make sure you can give a pet the attention he craves and deserves.
