Cora is an adorable, petite girl who was picked up as a stray in Mobile, AL. She was held at the shelter for 2 weeks and probably wondered why her owner didn't come and pick her up. Poor little girl; but don't worry, sweet Cora, we promise you will never be homeless again! The shelter had Cora listed as an Australian Shepherd mix, but that is just a guess. Truly, whatever went into her DNA, it produced one adorable pup!! She weighs about 35 lbs and is estimated to be about 1 1/2 years old.
Cora is in a quiet and loving foster home in the northeast now and we are learning all about her. Her foster mom and dad think she is the cutest thing and that she resembles a stuffed animal! Seriously, she is just too cute for words! Her fosters share,
"Cora is very timid and shy and will need a quiet loving home where her adopters will take time and give her love to bring her out of her shell. We suggest a home without kids and without a lot of comings and goings. Every day she is getting more comfortable but it will be a long road for her to trust completely. Her personality is starting to shine, she is very observant and loves to watch the birds, squirrels and chipmunks! I am sure given an opportunity she would chase them. She is treat motivated and is starting to learn basic commands like sit and lay down. She shows no signs of aggression, is good on a leash, and is house-trained. She does not like being in a crate but does not mind having a gate across a door where she can stay, if necessary. Cora sleeps on her bed at night and has no issues at all during the night. She is good up and down stairs. Oh and she likes to watch TV! I don't think she's ever seen a TV before!
When she first arrives in her new home she needs to be kept on a leash at all times (we keep it on in the house too). Even with a fenced-in yard, if you let her go you would not get her to come back in easily. A few days after Cora's arrival, she started to respond to being called to go downstairs and out to do her business. She needs time to develop trust and understand she has nothing to fear. Cora will gently take a treat out of your hand. I don't believe she has ever had a real dog dish with water and food as she hesitates to go to her dish unless shown what is in it. She is a good eater when shown the food, eating regular Science Diet kibble with a little yogurt and hamburger mixed in!
Cora does not seem to be bothered by cars, trucks or anything driving by on walks, but is not crazy about a lot of dogs barking (there is one house we walk by that they leave their little dogs out and they bark at everything moving). Once by them she is fine and most likely, over time she would not care. She does not like people (or anything) coming up behind her which is certainly understandable.
Cora's coat has a variety of colors with a little white on top between her ears, golden brown and darker brown coat with cream color paws! She really is a stunning girl! Oh and one ear flops a little giving her such a cute look! She appears to be getting more comfortable each day, and even started playing with toys. Cora is good with her canine foster sister, Lucy, so a home with a gentle mentor dog would be okay, but being an only dog would be okay too."
Cora has been spayed, is heartworm negative and up-to-date on vaccinations. She is in the northeast and is available for immediate adoption.
Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to continue the rehabilitation we have begun.

About Our Rescue
Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.
The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.
Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.
