My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Abigail: The Loyal `Hippo` Searching for Her Forever Home

Abigail is a stunning gray mixed breed beauty who earned the nickname `Abigail the Hippo` for her solid build and velvety charm. Sadly, she was surrendered to our care when her previous owners` living situation changed and they could no longer keep her. Despite the big transition, her spirit remains sweet and her devotion to her people is unmatched. Abigail is a very smart girl who excels at making her family feel deeply loved.

Abigail is a seasoned family dog. She has lived with children of all ages—from newborns on up and absolutely adored them. While she is incredibly gentle-hearted, she is a solid 58 pounds and can get very excited to see her favorite people.

Abigail can be selective about her canine friends. She prefers to choose her inner circle carefully. She has a strong drive to chase cats and is not recommended for a home with feline friends.

Abigail can struggle with being home alone. However, she shows significant improvement when provided with enrichment items (like puzzle toys, Kongs, or snuffle mats) to keep her clever mind occupied.

Abigail is currently on a `get fit` journey! She is overweight and needs a dedicated adopter who will help her reach a healthy weight through a controlled diet and gentle exercise. She has a luxating patella (a kneecap that shifts) on her left stifle (knee). Weight loss is critical to managing this condition and keeping her mobile. She is also finishing up treatment for an ear infection, which she has handled like a total professional.

Abigail doesn`t just join a family; she becomes its most devoted member.

Abigail is spayed and has received core vaccinations (bordetella, canine distemper, rabies), flea + tick preventative, has been dewormed, and is microchipped.
