My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Shih Tzu | 8 years old | Male | 30 lbs
*We cannot guarantee breed nor age.
Temperament: Calm, sweet, gentle.
Activity level: Low/medium.
Vetting: Core vaccines (dh2pp, rabies, bordetella), neutered, microchipped, dewormed, fecal (negative), 4DX bloodwork (negative) + full blood panel (normal), on flea/tick/heartworm prevention. Has had 2 dentals since 2019 but will need another one in the future. Petey suffers from frequent ear infections so this must be monitored. He eats a pure duck protein but is allergic to chicken.
Housebroken: Working on it. Petey’s owners didn’t have potty issues with him but at his current foster home he has had some accidents.
Good with Dogs: Amazing.
Good with Cats: Excellent.
Good with Children: Wonderful.
Any noted prey drive: None observed.
How do they respond to the outdoors: LOVES to be outside, walking, sniffing, hanging out in parks, sitting in the grass, relaxing in the sunshine, is a great hiker and loves nature treks.
Crate-Trained: Yes but not needed as Petey is very well behaved.
Any resource guarding: None observed.
Response to commands: Knows basic commands.
Are they vocal: No.
Leash etiquette: Wonderful on leash.
Transportation: Fantastic in the car. Okay on the subway and streetcar, but gets scared on the bus.

Petey is an extremely cuddly and well-adjusted dog. He loves being around his humans and will be an excellent cuddle companion on the couch. He loves attention and pets. If he approaches you and you stop petting him, he nudges your hand with his nose to tell you he’s not had his fill yet! It’s important to note that he's not a clinger or a tantrum thrower if he doesn't get attention though.
While Petey is very affectionate, he is also quite independent around the house. He’s clean and well behaved and ever so gentle in his movements. He doesn’t play much at home, mostly just curling up on different soft surfaces and as long as he has a blanket, he is a relaxed boy.
Petey is energetic and sprightly while on a walks. Petey is a wonderful adventure buddy as he enjoys hikes and is at ease with nature. For intense hikers that want to go out for an extended day, Petey is more than happy to sit in a doggie backpack when he gets tired.
Petey is a character and has some unique habits: he likes to eat while lying down; he likes to graze at his food and likes it even more when he’s hand-fed; he assumes a submissive position showing his belly when you catch up with him when playing, especially with men.
Petey is very treat motivated so learning new tricks or treat toys keep him engaged and busy.
Petey would do well in an environment with humans that shower him with love and attention - and are willing to take him for leisurely walks or nature hikes. He would also do well in a home that has a doggie sibling as he is lovely with other animals.
