My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

DJ needs a hero with a heart of gold.
His vet visit didn't go as well as we had hoped. He got neutered, his teefers cleaned, microchipped, and all caught up on preventative care. That all went fine. But he has a grade 5/6 heart murmur and likely doesn't have more than a couple of years left. It doesn't appear to affect him in his day to day life other than a little cough from time to time.
DJ is a 13 year old shihtzu mix, and lived with one owner from when he was purchased from his breeder until last November, when his dad died. Family members have been paying the bills and sitting with him, but none of them are able to take him home. Apparently DJ's owner was pretty neglectful of the little guy the last few months he was alive. He is a super sweet dude. He allowed himself to be handled and picked up within the first couple minutes of his evaluation. He was curious of small dogs and did pretty well meeting one, but a little scared of big dogs. He adores food and pets and would make a perfect lap dog. He loved riding in the car, and settled right into a kennel despite having never been in one.
There are a few options we have for DJ. We can adopt him to a forever home. We can place into fospice care, which means he would remain a foster dog until he passes, but in a home where he wouldn't be moved again.
