My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Pepper! Pepper was rescued from a cruelty situation and has taken time with her foster family to learn how to trust humans again. Now that she’s adapting to The Good Life ™, we think she’s ready to find her forever home!

Pepper is the “smallest large dog” you’ll ever meet. Don’t let the pictures fool you: she weighs less than 35 pounds, and we think 30 pounds of that is just her giant head. She’s short and stubby but has a huge playful personality.

Pepper lives with both large and small foster sibling dogs and plays well with all of them, but also does great when separated from them, finding her own ways to play. We don’t know how she does with housecats but was known to travel the streets with a pack of feral cats before she was rescued, so we think she’ll do fine with feline friends.

Pepper adores her foster dad and follows him everywhere he goes. Her favorite thing to do when she’s not playing is basking in her foster dad’s attention. When it’s bedtime, she happily camps on the floor next to her foster dad for a few hours (before she lets him know she has to go potty).

Pepper is very food-motivated and already knows how to sit for treats! She knows to go into her kennel when commanded. She spends some time kenneled during the day and overnight with no accidents. Outside the kennel, she's working very hard on potty training. Her love of treats is coming in very handy here!

Pepper has good leash manners, is an all-around stunner, and now she just needs you! Pepper is available for adoption in the Houston area. She is fully vaccinated and spayed.

More about this rescue

Animal Justice League (AJL) is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt dog and cat rescue organization with a focus on the Oak Forest and Garden Oaks neighborhoods of Houston, TX. AJL was formed on January 27, 2015, but really, the work began long before then!

In a neighborhood that often serves as a dumping ground for unwanted animals, in a city that is overridden with homeless pets, and shelters that are at capacity, we saw a need and knew it was time to make a difference.

We rescue dogs off of the brutal streets of Houston, help care for those that are no longer wanted or cared for by their previous owners, and are registered to pull dogs and cats from the city, county, and nearby shelters. We also help reduce the community cat and kitten population through a robust TNR (trap, neuter, return) program.

Our mission is to reduce the homeless pet population through rescue, education, and outreach. Help us make our mission a reality!
