My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Markus' estimated DOB is 05/15/2019 and he's a black Labrador Retriever/Pit Bull Terrier mix. He was found in Mark Twain National Forest. He was terrified and didn't understand where he was - a few different families had been rotating feeding him for days until someone decided to see if he'd hop into their truck. Markus instantly knew to load up, and the rest is history!

Markus has the potential to make a really great pet for just the right home. He has some barrier-aggression tendencies in the shelter environment, but a family took a chance on him and brought him home. While he was with that family, we learned that Markus bonds very strongly with his one person (he definitely prefers women) and he is very protective of that person, acting not-so-nice to everyone else. The perks of Markus are that he's already potty trained, walks great on a leash, loves car rides, doesn't make messes and is great at keeping himself busy as long as he has a toy. He loves to be involved with what you are doing and especially loves to play ball & will even bring it back!

Markus's ideal forever home just needs to be someone who can be a good, strong leader for him. We at the Haven know that this sweet boy is worth it!

Go meet their pets

The sanctuary is open to the public. We encourage you to bring along any potential fur-siblings to help pick out your new pet as well. We also hold monthly offsite adoptions at Petsmart and Petco stores in Springfield Missouri, Fayetteville & Rogers Arkansas, and at Orscheln's Farm & Home in Republic, MO. Please find us on Facebook to see where we're going next! (Schedules vary)
We don't always get a chance to check our emails throughout the day, so the quickest way to reach us is by giving us a call at 417-835-3647. Come out and meet your new best friend!

More about this shelter

We are a no-kill sanctuary for stray and abandoned dogs and cats, and for those left homeless by the death of their guardian. We provide an environment as homelike as possible with lots of loving care to our furry residents. It may take days or years, but we will always keep trying for all of the animals in our care. Volunteers and donations are always needed and welcome!
