My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I have an Adoption Pending but hope you will consider one of our other dogs in need. Thank you!

9/12/23 Foster Update: Wow! Wow! Wow! What a wonderful update to get from Bianca's foster mom! This little lady's inner happiness has emerged and is she ever the happy girl to be running, playing, and frolicking with her canine friends! Just check out this cutie pie in her new VIDEO! Her foster mom also tells us: "Just wanted to share the latest greatest progress report. This morning was the first time she entered the kitchen with my pooches to wait for her food as I was cutting the chicken. She even stole a piece out of Kali’s bowl!"

Bianca's Story: There have been many times when we at SGRR have wondered what a dog’s past life was like. In our nearly 20 years of rescuing, there is no dog we wished could truly tell us her tale more than Bianca. In her short lifespan, one-year-old Bianca acquired some baggage that caused her to be quite timid. She is in a quiet, loving foster home in VT now and we are learning what her forever home should be like. Her foster mom has shared a wonderful update with us.

"When Bianca first arrived at my home, she would not come out of the kitchen. Fast forward about 6 weeks and there has been a big improvement in Bianca’s behavior. She is being weaned off her anxiety medication and it’s like coming out of a brain fog! She is now with me and her canine siblings all the time although she still scoots out of the room when I get up from the couch. She comes when she is called and wanders into the living room even when I am not there. She is coming up to the bedroom now at night and sleeps upstairs all night. Her bed, however, still her safe place, but she come so far in the time she has been with us!”

"Bianca’s inner puppy has come out and she loves to romp and play in the yard. She no longer stands in the doorway as an observer. She takes pleasure when I chase her. She is extremely agile, be it very tight turns, rolling over at high speed, or just running very fast. She loves belly rubs and will gently nibble on my hand when she wants affection. I touch Bianca’s paw and she starts licking and nibbling my hand and putting her paw on top of my hand. We played like this for a bit, and then again and again. I also got her some toys she likes."

Bianca’s confidence is growing and we couldn’t be happier for her! While she is still hesitant to take a true walk, Bianca allows her foster mom to put her harness on her – we believe these baby steps will eventually turn into a pleasurable walk. Bianca enjoys the company of her doggie siblings and would likely do best in a home with a confident canine to play with and learn from. We have seen so many times that dogs can make a connection to another dog that helps them make that break through.

Bianca has been spayed, brought up-to-date on vaccinations, and is micro-chipped. She has been treated for heartworm and is now cleared for normal activity.

Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to continue the rehabilitation we have begun.

If you are approved to adopt through SGRR, have a quiet home, a physically fenced yard, and specialize in TLC, please contact Donna Toncic to be considered to adopt Bianca.

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.

Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.
