My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Three years ago Marilynn was found lying by a ditch on the side of the road in a rural county of Alabama. The Vet that treated her there thinks she was clubbed. When a dog that is used for breeding and fighting is no longer of any value to these deranged monsters they just hit them in the head to save the cost of their bullets.

Somehow Marilynn survived this monstrous act and was trying to pull herself out of the ditch she was sharing with other dead dogs.  As common in bait dogs, it appears her teeth were filed down. Her breasts were severely engorged and oozing infection. Her eyes, ears, and skin were also infected.

The Good Samaritan that found her said she was trying to wag her tail and seemed grateful for their loving touch and kindness. She was rehabilitated at the vet for 4 months, then she was my foster for an additional 6 months. Sadly after 26 months the family that adopted Marilynn abruptly decided to return her to us due to absolutely NO fault of her own, saying they didn’t have time for her. This broke our hearts. This incredibly sweet, affectionate, obedient, loyal dog deserves so much better than to once again be discarded.

We love and adore Marilynn but she needs, wants and deserves her own family. We have 14 dogs including a medical foster. We do the best we can for her but can see she longs to be with us. Because of her traumatic past we feel it’s best for her to be an only dog. She interacts with our other dogs but only in a managed/controlled environment. We believe she is not dog aggressive but appears to be dog selective.

We believe Marilynn is approximately 8 years old. She is spayed, heartworm negative, fully vaccinated, received a ProHeart 12 injection and is microchipped. Weighs 44 perfect Lbs and is a total snuggle bug. LOVES toys and treats. To know her is to love her♥She is precious soul.

Marilynn is truly special. A survivor. Never a minutes trouble. She will melt your heart.

If we can find a foster for Marilyn everything will be provided to care for her. She is loyal companion, protective, affectionate and the absolute sweetest girl ever.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Adoption is a four part process.

Application: You will be required to submit general information along with personal and vet references.

Home visit: Potential adopters will receive a home visit by one of our members.

Meet -n- Greet: All family members (fur babies included) must meet the foster parent and pup they wish to adopt.

Here at Dirt Road Doggies Rescue, each adoption contribution is a flat rate per dog. We do not adjust this rate based on the "popularity" of a dog. We believe every dog is worthy of an owner that sees the value in them. Each adoption contribution is used to cover the expenses incurred for that dog and other dogs in our program.

Go meet their pets

Dirt Road Doggies Rescue, INC is located in the quaint town of Gillsville, in the foothills of the Georgia Mountains, just south of Gainesville. Our rescues are fostered in loving homes located in Hall, Jackson, and neighboring counties.

More about this rescue

We are a small canine rescue group located in Northeast Georgia that works tirelessly to rescue, rehabilitate, fully vet, and re-home faithful dogs that have been tossed out of cars onto rural roads. We are a registered, 501c3 tax deductible Non Profit Rescue and we are licensed by the Georgia Department of Agriculture

All dogs in our program have been previously reported to animal control to ensure they were not lost pups who had a family diligently looking for them. We do not turn a dog away due to breed, health concerns, or age. It is our goal to keep these dogs out of animal shelters, thus saving their lives and providing more time to the dogs already in shelters to find their forever family.
