My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sailor was found on a boat dock in Iberia so we don't know his history. He is playful and friendly with people and other dogs.
He might be a hound mix? Your guess is as good as ours. He seems like he's around a year old, and weighs about 60lbs. He was originally found as a stray- brought in 5/22/23, so we don't know much about him. He's a nice guy though, meets stranger well- albeit a little bashful at first, and seems to be very tolerant. We've taken him to events, and he's always done well. In reality, he's very sweet, and does enjoy attention. He goes out in playgroup with other dogs and does well. He is another one that if we could tell people that he was house trained and crate trained that we fell could help him a lot in getting out of here.

Dog/puppy Adoption fees:
$150.00 dollars for a dog that has been at the shelter less than 30 days. $125.00 dollars if here longer than 30 days. Senior (6 years or older) dogs are $50.00.

Cat/kitten Adoption Fees: $50.00 for cats and kittens who have been available for adoption under 30 days; $35.00 for cats and kittens who have been available for adoption over 30 days.

All adoptions require an application. Reference checks are made, landlord verification is needed, and Vet references are checked. All dogs/cats must be spayed and neutered that live in the home. A $50.00 dollar deposit is required for puppies/kittens that are to young at the time of adoption for the spay/neuter.

All dogs/puppies made available have current Vaccinations, heartworm tested, frontline, wormed, micro-chipped and spayed/neutered age permitted.

All cats/kittens made available have current vaccinations, FIV tested, frontline, wormed, micro-chipped and spayed/neutered age permitted.

Dogwood Animal Shelter is a non-profit, no-kill shelter.

Since its infancy, compassionate, like-minded volunteers have been the driving force behind Dogwood Animal Shelter. Through auctions and sales, a handful of dedicated people raised enough money to build its first, albeit small facility and was established as a 501(c) 3 in 1976. It was filled beyond capacity almost immediately.

The shelter is funded entirely from donations and proceeds from their Dogwood Animal Shelter Thrift Store.

After years of saving, planning and busting at the seams with fur-babies, in 2005 it was time to build a new facility with their own in-house clinic! Under the direction of Dr. John Reinhold and coupled with a very dedicated and gifted team of Veterinarians and staff, Dogwood Animal Shelter continues to offer low cost spays and neuters to the public as well as services to their shelter buddies; services to approximately 2,000 dogs and cats yearly!

Dogwood Animal Shelter began their journey of being a successful no-kill shelter in 1997, and since then has saved over 40,000 lives!
