My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Callie (fka ASF Campbell) is looking for a new family. On her home ground, Callie warms to strangers quickly and will ask for affection. She is more shy around tall men, but if they come down to her level then she is all kisses. Inside, she doesn't want strange dogs too close at first, but warms up with a little time and will snuggle with them.

When off leash outside, she ignores strange dogs but loves to chase and play bitey face with known dogs. She has worked hard on her leash manners. She used to bark and lunge at other dogs while leashed. Now her attention can be held when there's a treat to be had. She pulls on her leash when really excited, then calms down and is easy to walk. Her recall is 75-80%.
She does not guard her food or toys. She will do 'sit', 'wait', and 'touch'. Inside she has torn up a few pieces of paper and some dog toys (and has been known to 'steal' an empty dog food bag). She can roam the whole house day and night. She doesn't take food from a kitchen counter but will eat anything on the floor or low surfaces like a coffee table. She is gentle when fed treats.
She's not a fan of being brushed but will tolerate Furminator on her for 3-5 minutes at a time. She lets people wash and dry her feet. She has her claws trimmed by a vet after getting a few treats.

Callie's past has had a direct impact on her reason for being returned. Callie was originally found in a field where she had dug a den and was raising her 9 puppies. Her pups were about 5 weeks old when they were all captured and brought into rescue. Callie had to do what she had to do in order to survive and keep her puppies alive. She developed a high prey drive that still persists. She will catch and eat birds, rabbits, squirrels, etc. She is absolutely NOT suitable for a home with cats or other small pets.

Callie is approximately 3yo and weighs about 60#. She is on Proin for incontinence. (This can be purchased online or through a vet with a prescription.) Based on a few DNA tests done on her puppies, Callie has a lot of GSD and husky in her. She is spayed and UTD on all of her vaccines. She is on HW and flea prevention.
The way to Callie's heart is through her stomach. She loves to eat, and loves treats. And she LOVES water, splashing in it, lying down in it, just being in it.

Callie would love another confident, sweet and playful dog to play and run with. Although she hasn't been exposed to children, because of her sweet, loving, and playful personality, it's believed she would be wonderful with older children. She would love an active family to take her on hikes and adventures; this is her happy place. She loves car rides and rides wonderfully on short and extended trips. A fenced in yard would be ideal for her, to allow her to carry out her full speed zoomies several times a day when she can't go on hikes.

Callie is being fostered in Jackson, OH. To fill out an application, please go to australianshpeherdsfurever.org/adoption-application.

There is an additional $20 microchip fee which includes registration and transfer to her new family.

All adoption fees are used for future rescue efforts.

More about this rescue

Nancy Pearlman-Gonzalez, Founder and CEO, created Australian Shepherds Furever (ASF), a non-profit organization to promote the education, rescue, fostering and adoption of the Australian Shepherd breed of dog.
In July 2012, Australian Shepherds Furever (ASF) initiated as a page on Facebook. Hoping to have 1,000 members at the end one year, ASF quickly grew into a network of more than 78,000 dedicated individuals striving to provide aid and refuge to Aussies all over the country.
From these phenomena, the website www.australianshepherdsfurever.org was developed to educate the public on this intelligent and beautiful breed, and provide resources to those seeking help or willing to contribute to the Adopt, Save and Foster (ASF) philosophy. ASF filed for non- profit status in July 2013 and obtained its status in July 2014 and through proactive networking, partnerships, training/rehabilitation and fundraising, ASF has saved the lives of countless dogs to include those with Parvo, Mange, Tick Disease, Cancer, Pneumonia, broken limbs and some of the most extreme cases of abuse that one could imagine. ASF focuses on the Aussies that most would turn their backs on. ASF is in its 5th year and over 1,910 Australian Shepherds have been rescued from high kills shelters, abusive owners and other high-risk situations.
We, as humans, have a responsibility to uphold, shelter and care for those beings that are less fortunate, that are simply cast away. Thanks to proactive individuals who work collectively, Aussies nationwide are being given a chance at a better life through Australian Shepherds Volunteers are an integral component of ASF for the maintenance of the website, screening potential fosters and adopters, providing training, fundraising, data base management, networking and transporting of recued Aussies. All Volunteers; Adopters, Fosters, Trainers and Transporters etc. are carefully screened and vetted to assure the safe and vital placement of these dogs into furever homes. We currently have over 170 foster families and over 160 dogs in foster care nationwide. We have professional trainers to work with our dogs with severe behavioral issues. We also have a team of Rescue Coordinators, Medical Advisors, Fundraisers, Regional Reps, Application Processors, Data Base Managers, Social Media Managers, Microchip and ID tag Registrars and Ground and Air Transport Coordinators that work together to save these beautiful dogs.
