My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, I'm Trixie! I’m an almost 3 years old, 11 pound, Toy Aussie, who just happens to have 3 legs. I’m loving life with my foster mom and siblings, but I'm ready for a family to call my own! I do have a few special requirements for my new home that you should know about, though.

First, I will need a patient, stable and quieter home, without any young children, who may not understand boundaries. Although my small size makes me seem great for an apartment, I can make a lot of noise when left alone, so it would probably be best if my new family was in a single family home. I experience some anxiety when separated from my people, and when there are loud, sudden noises. With time, trust in my human, structure and consistency, I can work through some of my anxieties. It also really helps to have my person around; right now that’s my foster mom, but I’m hoping to make that bond with someone new too!

I really love my foster siblings too! They are all much bigger than me, or even cats(!), but I love to be around them and I follow their lead with a lot of things. I would really love to have a dog brother or sister at my new home! Size doesn’t matter too much, as I play and wrestle regularly with 2 dogs over 60 pounds; in fact, I've met many dogs, of many sizes, and I initiated play with them. I also really love the cats that live at my foster home!

My foster mom still makes me stay in a kennel when she’s not around; I don’t like it much, but I had a really bad accident once when I was home alone and I broke my leg, so it’s probably safest. I sleep in there too, as long as it’s in my foster moms room; I don’t mind at all and I sleep quietly throughout the night. Another thing to know about me is that I still need some help with my potty training. I was kept in a kennel with a run on it before I got to RCHS, so I never really learned to ask to go outside to potty, but we are really working on this.

Maybe the most important thing to know about me is that my transition to my new home is going to take some time, potentially 3-4 months. My foster mom has seen significant growth in my personality and ability in the 3rd and 4th month of caring for me. If you put in some time, love and patience, you will be rewarded with the most playful, fun loving, spunky little dog!

Do you think you might be the right family for me? I'd love to meet you!
