Barrister is a sweet, old gentleman and is looking tor his forever home. Barrister is one of the calmest dogs I have ever met. He never jumps, rarely barks, and enjoys spending the day curled up on the couch next to you. Barrister is heart worm positive, so he doesn’t need long walks; to the end of the block and back is just fine for him. He’s very gentle on the leash and doesn’t need more than a light tug to change directions. My elementary-aged daughter was able to walk him by herself just fine.
He is very good with other dogs. We had two play dates with other families with dogs and Barrister enjoyed meeting and playing gently with the other pups. At one house he went nose-to-nose with their cat and showed no signs of aggression, just curiosity.
Barrister is not fully house trained yet. He would need a family that can provide a regular bathroom schedule, a safe place to stay when his people aren’t home, and lots of positive reinforcement when he goes outside. He is not crate trained, but I was able to get him in the crate, so with patience, that should be achievable.
Barrister is very gentle and does not resource guard. He takes treats very carefully and eats slowly. He doesn’t beg at the table and didn’t attempt to sneak food that was left on the counter. He was great when we gave him a bath outside and he doesn’t mind having his paws wiped down after a walk.
He would be a great pet for someone who wants a low-energy friend that wants nothing more than to be with you and get his belly scratched.
