My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

UPDATE: Her new name is Daisy and she lives with her new best friend, a lab mix named Gus. She gets to spend every day being a happy healthy pup in her forever home. Thanks for adopting.

Arabi was born on August 23rd, 2007. Mother dog (Mia) is a purebred Catahoula Leopard Hound (the Louisiana state dog). We are not sure of the father. We can see a variety in the puppies.
These are working breed dogs. They will not do well in a household that wants a mellow couch potato dog to sit & wait for them to get home from their 8-12 hour day. They will need to spayed or neutered when they are old enough. They will need their Rabies vaccine when they are 4-6 months old.
Safe Dogs By The River does not adopt out dogs to homes that are seeking an outdoor only dog (nor do we endorse this practice). We encourage and in some cases require obedience classes. We require a crate for the puppy’s comfort & security and to help with housetraining & a fenced yard.
She is super sweet and loves to play. She has been exposed to lots of different dogs, a few cats and a lot of people. Her socialization to all kinds of things should continue. She should not be kept inside and away from all people and other pets while she is waiting for her vaccines to be finished. She will suffer greatly if she is not exposed to all kinds of things in a positive manner – like children, men, cars, busses and all the things that we encounter in our every day life.
Recommended are any books by the following trainers/authors: Pat Miller, Karen Pryor or Ian Dunbar (this is just a short list to start with).
Here is a photo album site that chronicles the litter since they were 45 minutes old:

She is beautiful with one blue eye & one brown eye. She is blonde & white. She is a little shy at first, but warms up quickly. She loves to play, whether with other animals or people. She watches everything before approaching, but always winds up in the middle of everything. She was the first to discover how the doggy door works!
Arabi has an adoption fee to help defray the cost of the litter rescue. Spay or neuter fees are included. If we have them spayed or neutered it will be prepaid. If you choose to have it done with another veterinarian, your fee will be refunded upon altered certificate (the fee we would have paid, not a reimbursement of the total your vet charged). Obedience classes are highly recommended, if not required. October 27, 2024, 12:23 am
