Introducing---The mighty Dante!

This little three legged dynamo is fearless, resilient and bonds tightly to his human. Wee Dante was struck by a car and left to die on the side of the road until brought into the loving and experienced care of the good folks at SOS el Arca in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. He lost a rear leg and suffered multiple fractures to his hips and other rear leg, but this guy...he said "no leg, no problem"!  He underwent surgeries, 2 months of strict kennel rest and then his road to recovery included a flight from Mexico to Canada which he took "in stride" so to speak.  He is happy, energetic, eager to please, super duper smart and is learning to navigate well with just three legs and even tries, and is mostly successful in doing "zoomies".

HOWEVER, although he WANTS to do everything he used to do with all four legs, he really shouldn't do it all....at least not for now.  He is still not as stable as he could be and needs to rebuild the muscle in his remaining rear leg.  Stairs are a big no no due to his lack of strength and balance, but oh how he wants to!!  He is amazing really, he doesn't have an ounce of hesitation in any way so his new family must be vigilant and very careful that he does not take on things he ought not to just yet.  He also is a little shadow and follows his human very closely.  He could easily be tripped over which is dangerous for him and his human.  Thankfully he is very comfortable and feels secure in his crate so when needed he can be kept safe within and give his hips and legs some much needed rest.

Dante is currently living with three mature, low energy dogs and he is very comfortable with them but he would really be best as a solo dog as it could be disastrous if Dante were ever to get tangled with a boisterous, bigger pooch.  He is also a little bossy pants and if he pushed his mighty dog attitude a little too far on another dog he would not be able to properly defend himself if he needed to.   He may not think he is, but our Dante is quite fragile.   He is best in a cat free home because as we know cats are great wrestlers and Dante would probably not fare well if he was tackled and rolled by a playful or angry cat.

Dante loves his walks and behaves very nicely on leash.  But again he cannot walk very far and has been taught how to sit quietly in a sling type carrier so he can go on longer "walks" and enjoy the fresh air while his human carries him.  Dante is not a "yappy" pup but will bark if he hears another dog barking however will quickly quiet down once he is redirected.   Any corrections for Dante don't need to be anything more than a firm "no".  Did we mention he is super duper smart?

Dante's house training is a work in progress but he is getting there and he is doing fantastic!  He is not destructive, loves to eat, is learning about toys and appropriate chew toys.  He is excellent in his house crate and also travels very quietly in the car in a small travel crate.  Dante is a little hesitant of new people but a yummy treat wins him over pretty quickly.

This boy has it all - great looks, personality plus, smart as a whip, so very eager to please and a joy for life that not even a car could crush.

If you feel you would be the right fit for Dante, please fill out an adoption application at www.allpawsmatter.ca

All APM dogs are UTD on vaccinations, microchipped, spayed or neutered, dewormed, Heart worm (4dx snap) tested and arrive with a health certificate. They come to adopter with a harness, a collar and two leashes for safety.

NOTE: The above description is relevant to this dog in its current and previous setting. Home changes and adopter personalities can bring out different behaviours not previously seen. We also do not claim or suggest that our dogs are hypo-allergenic or that they shed/do not shed.

BREED DISCLAIMER: We are never sure of the breed of our dogs since they arrive off the streets or shelters. It is a guess only!
