My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ark RB TJ Watt, R 12G, L 75152

Hi my name is TJ Watt, but I am best known as just TJ. I can’t believe I have not yet found my forever home. Maybe it could be with you? I am very gentle, sweet, affectionate, and playful. I am turning 2 years old on 1/29/24, so I still have a little bit more zest than an older hound. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE napping, but I also love a zoom in the yard, a nice long quiet walk, and playing with stuffies. I am friendly and gentle with my 13 lb. foster sister, and to kitties that don’t run around too much. I also have 2 other big dog foster siblings, who are my friends. I would love to have a confident sibling in my new home to cozy up to and play with. Once I adjusted to my foster home, I began to really love my humans too. I follow mom around the house, love belly rubs while I am roaching, and would be elated if you let me sleep in the human bed with you at night. I promise to keep you nice and warm if you let me! I understand you might need to leave the house for a few hours at a time, so I don’t worry too much when you are gone. I don’t need to be kenneled, since I prefer to nap or play with toys (just make sure you keep the counters clean and hide the remote). I have gained a lot of confidence outside the house over the last few months with encouragement from my parents, but still keep my eye on strange people and dogs on walks. Therefore, I would prefer to live in the suburbs, versus a busy downtown. If you can be a little patient with me while I adjust to a new place, I promise to come out of my shell and love you more than anyone else! I did recently meet some kids and enjoyed getting pets but still a little nervous of the younger ones. I should also mention that I am a good eater and always clean my bowl. My parents feed me hydrolyzed food because I have some food allergies, but I gobble it up so I can stay big and strong. Do you think that you have room for me in your house? I would love to meet you. – TJ Watt

More about this rescue

We are the Minnesota chapter of Greyhound Pets of America.

Greyhound Pets of America is a tax-exempt, non-profit corporation founded in 1987 for the purpose of finding homes for ex-racing greyhounds and educating the public on the suitability and availability of greyhounds as pets.

All of our greyhounds go into foster homes where they can acclimate to their new lives as retired racers. We also get a better idea of their personalities so we can make the best possible match with their new family.

We have found great success in matching the personalities of the greyhounds with the personalities of the new families. We test all our greyhounds to see if they can live with small animals and many of our greyhounds go on to live in families with other pets, including cats.

Greyhound Pets of America - Minnesota is run entirely by volunteers who dedicate their time and talents to the cause of rescuing retired greyhounds. GPA-MN and our volunteers are committed to making sure all our greyhounds have a happy, safe and long life while in our care as well as after they find their forever homes.

If you're planning to get a dog, we hope you will consider adopting one of our retired racers!
