We rescued Sidney from a horrific shelter in Memphis, TN. When we got him, he was skin and bones and had some barrier aggression issues (who knows what horrors he suffered there)
It didn't take long for Sidney to realize he was now safe and could start letting down his guard.
Sidney Poitier has filled out and is truly a stunning dog. Sidney is about 2 years old, and is at his healthy weight of 80 lbs.
Sidney is a very intelligent fellow, he learns quicky and is anxious to please. He will do well with a job and/or a lot of stimulation, long walks and hikes. He will do well with an experienced dog person.
Sidney loves meeting new people. He has done well with large dogs he has met, however he is would not be good with small dogs or cats.
Sidney does show barrier reactivity, however, when the barrier is removed (whether it is a crate, fence or car window) he show absolutely no issues.
Because Sidney likes a lot of activity, he will need a securely fenced yard (must be a physical fence, not an electric or invisible system)
He is neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped and on monthly treatment for flea/ticks and heartworm prevention
Sidney is currently located in the Middle TN area but transport is included in the adoption fee for approved adopter
If you are interested in Sidney Poitier, email cox_ann@bellsouth.net for an application

More about this rescue
Rookie's Rescue is committed to helping abandoned, neglected and abused pets, finding loving homes and
educating the public about responsible pet ownership with a strong emphasis on spaying and neutering. .
Rookie's Rescue is a virtual shelter, meaning all of our pets live in loving foster homes, not a facility/shelter environment. Almost all of the pets available are located in foster homes in TN, VA, NY or PA.
WHERE DO OUR PETS COME FROM?
Rookie' Rescue saves pets from over crowded shelters and animal control facilities, who due to lack of space and overwhelming volume are forced to euthanize thousands of healthy, adoptable pets each year. We will also accept pets from owners who can no longer care for their pet. When the animal enters our program, they undergo a complete health check from a local vet to make sure the pet is healthy. The pet is treated for any medical needs, is brought up to date on all vaccinations and is spayed or neutered. The pet is then socialized and assessed by our behaviorist. When the animal has been determined healthy and socialized, it is placed for adoption.
