My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Gigi is a beautiful young mama who's looking for her furever home! This sweet, 2.5-year-old Maine Coon mix came to Only Maine Coons Rescue from a hoarding situation, along with her babies, Motley, Figgy, Zorro, and Sunflower (all of whom have been adopted). Gigi was a wonderful mom to her kittens, and she's now ready for a home where she can be the center of attention!

Gigi has really come out of her shell since her kiddos left — in fact, she's blossomed into one of THE sweetest and most affectionate cats her foster parents have ever met! She frequently solicits pets, following her foster parents around and sprawling at their feet. She enjoys snoozing on her foster mom's lap from time to time, as well. Gigi has also discovered toys, and she LOVES to play with them! Jingle balls seem to be her favorite.

Gigi currently lives in a home with several resident cats, as well as two large dogs, and she's been fine with all of them — although she definitely does better with laid-back animals. That said, she would be totally fine as an only pet. Gigi has never been around children before, but she would probably be OK in an adoptive home with calm, gentle kids.

Gigi was recently diagnosed with proteinuria (aka glomerular disease), which is basically an increased level of protein in the urine. She's on a medication called telmisartan, which is technically a blood pressure medication, but it's used to treat her specific condition; i.e., she doesn't actually have high blood pressure. She will need to take the medication long-term, and she will also need biannual rechecks of her urine to ensure that her blood pressure hasn't gotten too low, and to adjust the medication dosage if necessary. Gigi's vet said that her condition is most likely a genetic disorder or the result of an infection early in her life. The condition is easily treatable, though, and the vet was very pleased that we caught it early. Other than that, Gigi is a very healthy girl!

Gigi is spayed and up to date on her vaccinations, and she's tested negative for FeLV/FIV. She also has wonderful manners and always uses her litter box, as well as her scratching posts!

Gigi is located in Burke, Virginia. If you are interested in adopting her, please fill out an adoption application on our website: https://omcrescue.rescuegroups.org/forms/form?formid=6177.
