My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bella's story is a sad one, but don't stop reading. She deserves to be seen.

Long story short, she was one of many pulled from a horrible hoarding situation in a rural Georgia county. She, and many others, were saved because a Good Samaritan reported the situation to animal control - you see? One person CAN make a difference. Never look away.

Her feet were completely encapsulated in a hard and woolly hairball with nails a mile long on her sweet little toes. Both ears were infected and had been for who knows how long. They were so painful to the touch she couldn't bear drops, so our vet put long-acting oto-packs in.

She was a meal for fleas that ate well off of a wound on the top of her head, likely from another larger dog attack. It oozed and bled. She endured active UTIs with two different types of bacteria and lived in filth. When she did get fed, it was cheap crap kibble.

She's had plenty of babies though, because that's what backyard breeders care about.

But no more. Her day has come. The sunshine in the gloom? She's miraculously heartworm negative, and her bloodwork is normal. This, from a babe who's never seen a vet in her entire life until now. She's housetrained despite the UTI's.

She's been treated with the most tender loving care by her foster mama, and our veterinary crew. NO MORE BABIES. SPA DAY. The ouchies are going away, and she's having her teeth cleaned and shined, and this most gentle girl is going to feel reincarnated into a Chapter Two that will positively gleam with gossamer.

We think she's 8-ish? That's just a rough guess. What we know is that she is going to pull through this (unlike her other small friend who barely made it out of the hellish existence they led before passing away) and bring the most joy to the person lucky enough to be hers.

In her foster home, there are other small dogs and children, including a baby and toddler. Shortly after her arrival, her foster mama took to bed for a nap when the small folks did. Bella was invited up into the bed, for probably the first time ever in her life, and snuggled in with a sigh of trust and utter gratitude.

We'll keep you up to date.

Bella came to us completely mentally and emotionally shut down.

If you are interested in adopting Bella Hadid, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Bella Hadid's adoption fee is $350.

All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Bella Hadid will go to his / her new home microchipped, spayed/neutered, heartworm tested, up to date on vaccinations, and with all other medical needs addressed.

Almost every dog's veterinary expenses exceed our adoption fees; we are a non-profit.

DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group. We focus on the metro Atlanta area and can assist throughout the state of Georgia.

Since our rescue is entirely run and staffed by volunteers, our ability to travel long distances for adoptions is somewhat limited. We focus on Georgia, but if you are in a neighboring state, we might be able to work something out - we'll expect you to do your part.

DREAM does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back.
