My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ella Grace is a 6 ½ year old sweet little long haired red beauty! She gets along great with people and other dogs. Ella will thrive in a family that has another small dog for her to play with. She also loves entertaining herself playing with her toys which her foster dad says is really cute to watch. She adores being held and cuddled.

Ella will prance around the door when she wants to go outside to go potty. As long as she is taken out on a schedule and upon her “dancing around the door” request, she’s totally potty trained.

Ella enjoys daily leash walks and loves to greet people she meets with some barking. But hey, she IS a Dachshund and she likes to be heard! Once they extend a hand for her to sniff she’s totally fine with anybody she meets. But if Ella sees a squirrel or a cat while out on a walk, you better make sure you have a tight hold on the leash because her big prey drive kicks into overdrive! Families with cats are definitely not a match for Ella!

Sweet Ella has had some health challenges which all can be easily managed. She had a bladder stone that has now been removed. The good news, this type of stone can be prevented from forming by feeding her a particular type of kibble readily available from your vet or online delivery service. Easy - Peasy!! She also has a history of seizures that were left untreated before she came to DREAM. Ella is under the care of a specialist that has tweaked her medication she takes twice a day to keep the seizures at bay. The seizures are now to the point of being mild, short, and not very often. Seizures are definitely manageable with medication and regular check ins with the vet which can typically be done by phone.

If you are interested in adopting Ella Grace, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Ella Grace's adoption fee is $xxx.

All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Ella Grace will go to his / her new home microchipped, spayed/neutered, heartworm tested, up to date on vaccinations, and with all other medical needs addressed.

Almost every dog's veterinary expenses exceed our adoption fees; we are a non-profit.

DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group. We focus on the metro Atlanta area and can assist throughout the state of Georgia.

Since our rescue is entirely run and staffed by volunteers, our ability to travel long distances for adoptions is somewhat limited. We focus on Georgia, but if you are in a neighboring state, we might be able to work something out - we'll expect you to do your part.

DREAM does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back.

More about this rescue

We envision a time when every dachshund in Georgia has a loving home for its entire life. We believe that the welfare of our companion animals is an indication of the health of our society. We see the current welfare of our companion animals as a disease. To treat the symptoms of this disease, we rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome dachshunds in need. To treat the causes of this disease, we educate the public on compassionate dog guardianship of any breed. We want to have a deep, direct impact in a limited geographic area, rather than a small impact in a large geographic area.
