My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I have an Adoption Pending but hope you will consider one of our other dogs in need. Thank you!

Be prepared to be stopped when you are out walking with Faye! Yes, she is that stunning! Faye is a very unique-looking pup with an amazing coat. Depending how the light is shining on this beauty is how you will see the different hues of her color combinations. Foster mom shares, " I think her looks are gorgeous and her fur has hues of silver, chocolate, gold and red. It is soft, lush, and very shiny. She has gorgeous eyes too that are soft and expressive! They seem to look right into your heart and soul and she often looks to her humans for direction and assurance. She will then flick her beautiful plume of a tail from side to side when you say, "good girl!”

Faye is a beautiful Retriever mix (possibly with Australian Shepherd) who was picked up as a stray in the Gulf area of Alabama. Like so many of the dogs that find their way to our rescue, no one came to claim Faye at the shelter. Faye was placed in what we hoped would be her forever home in the northeast but the kitties in that home prove to be too interesting for Faye. Thus, we are seeking a home without cats for this pretty girl.

Faye's foster mom has shared a wealth of details about Faye, who they call "Peaches." You can see what a wonderful companion she is and she is a champion snuggle-muffin! "She is a very sweet and loving dog. Her walking and leash skills have improved and we are working on it daily. We walk most every day and she does pretty well with the harness. She’s very good with many basic commands like sit, watch, and come. After her walks, she enjoys chewing on her beef flavored bones and her Kong with peanut butter. And oh, how she loves peanut butter!"

Tennis balls are one of Faye’s favorite things to fetch, and it’s good to have several available as she doesn’t always bring them back! She loves to run in the backyard, doing loops and running with one of the other dogs in the home. Check out Faye playing with her foster sibling in this video! We think when the snow hits, she’ll have a real blast!

In the house, Peaches (Faye) likes her bed or the rug in the kitchen. The couch is a favorite, especially when someone sits there. She thinks she is a lap dog and since she is under 50 pounds, climbing into a lap is quite doable. Whether she is in a lap or sitting next to you, her chin and neck are absolutely her favorite places for rubs and cuddles. I think she could sit for hours with a good chin rub! She gets along with children and adults alike. She is one smart dog and very sweet, she simply needs a cat-free home.

Foster mom shares, "Her personality is starting to shine (just like her fur!) as affectionate and cuddly. She is definitely a peach so the name Peaches is quite fitting.” She is so loving and giving hugs is one of her favorite things to do! She has a beautiful gait when prancing around the yard and is truly a show-stopper! “I keep on telling Peaches she will be going home soon and for now she is loved very much here.”

Estimated to be about 1-2 years old, Faye is spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations, micro-chipped, and heartworm negative. This is a wonderful dog who simply needs someone to love her. Faye is in the northeast and ready to go home!

Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to continue the rehabilitation we have begun.

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.

Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.
