My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I have an Adoption Pending but hope you will consider one of our other dogs in need. Thank you!

Sally is an affectionate Golden mix who is 7-8 months old. Sally's original family likely adopted her because they could not resist Sally's sweet puppy face. Unfortunately, they seem to have spent little time with her. Instead of working with her on manners, they probably relegated her to life in the backyard. One day, the nincompoops decided they no longer wanted Sally and they left her in the backyard of one of the shelter staff members. Sad as this may seem, it was Sally’s lucky day - she is now a Sunshine dog and will be forever loved!

This sweet love muffin is ready to begin her new life as a cherished companion. An adopter who is willing to dedicate time to training Sally will be greatly rewarded with a WONDERFUL dog! This tail-wagging love-bug enjoys bones, toys, and balls. Sally is full of life, walks fairly well on a leash for having had such little training, and she keeps her kennel clean. If you're looking for a fun-loving, happy go lucky, medium sized, young female that is affectionate and full of exuberance, showing her gratitude by demonstrating joy in everything she does, Sally could be the girl for you. She shows such promise and is a loving girl who is ready to bring brightness to her forever home.

When Sally was dumped in the backyard of the shelter worker, she was terribly underweight, a clear case of neglect. Weighing around 43 lbs now, she is looking much healthier. Sally is in a wonderful foster home in CT and gets along so well with her foster siblings, both human and canine. Her foster mom shares, "She’s learning some basic manners; she seems to know "sit" and learned "wait." She was barging through doorways and trying to sneak past me probably because she was kept outside but the "wait"command has been helpful. She would try to scoot past me to get in the house or push her way past me to not be kept separated from me, but she seems to be getting better with it as she learns I won’t leave her for long. Sally is fine in the crate if I’m away, but barks if I’m upstairs sleeping so she’s sleeping in my room now. Last night she chose to sleep in the bathroom, and other than 2 accidents the first weekend she’s been housebroken. Her favorite toys are the tennis ball and this old stuffy she found in our yard. She’s not food motivated and is more motivated by affection. She’s perfect! "

Sally is up-to-date on her vaccinations, micro-chipped, heartworm negative, and spayed. All that is missing is a place to lay her sweet head where she will know that she is home, forever. She keeps her kennel clean, is good with other dogs, and and totally ignored the cat, when tested at the clinic.

Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to continue the rehabilitation we have begun.

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.

Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.
