My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hail, I am Maximus, a noble canine warrior on a quest for a loyal companion to conquer life's adventures with!

Just as a gladiator steps into the arena with valor, I'm here to face each day with the same fierce determination. Eager to explore and conquer the world, I yearn for a fellow adventurer to stand by my side, ready to face challenges head-on and create epic memories together.

Rumors have it that I'm not just a brave explorer, but also a paragon of manners and behavior within the walls of a home. Like a gladiator in training, I've honed my skills and mastered the art of being a well-behaved housemate. Neat and orderly? You can count on it.

In the grand arena of life, I'm seeking a partner who shares my love for excitement and discovery. Together, we'll forge a bond as strong as any gladiator's shield, and our adventures will be the battles we conquer with hearts full of courage and joy.

So, if you're searching for a loyal companion who's as ready for adventure as a gladiator charging into combat, then I'm your Maximus. Join me in creating an epic tale of companionship, exploration, and triumph. Reach out, and together we'll forge a destiny that's fit for legends!

More about this shelter

The Animal Defense League was established in 1934 by a group of individuals, “for the prevention of cruelty to animals; to promote kind and humane treatment of animals; and to aid and assist the enforcement of laws enacted for the prevention of animal cruelty.”

In 1961, ADL moved to its present location in the easily accessible northeast part of San Antonio. Its campus encompasses more than 12 acres and includes a two-acre pet park. On the property is an Adoption Center with a small retail store, and a separate 5,000 square-foot Clinic which houses our veterinary hospital that provides onsite spay/neuter surgery, surgery for injured and ill animals, and ongoing medical care for all ADL resident animals.
