My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

12/31/23 Update: Bella's Foster Mom tells us, "Bella is such a good girl.....easy. She is a great house guest with good house manners and is no trouble at all. I wonder why this sweet girl is still waiting for her forever home."

Bella just completed a training program to help her be more polite with dogs when there are toys or food to be shared. She lived nicely with another dog most of her life, and her trainer worked with her on sharing, and meeting other dogs while out and about. Her trainer shared that Bella did extremely well and is very sweet and playful! Sensitive to anything asked of her, she wants to please and responds well. He feels she could live nicely with another dog, preferably a male, she just needs to know she is loved and that her person will take care of her.

Bella's Story: Bella is an 8-year old, 45 lb. Lab mix whose human mom passed away. Bella lived with a doggie sister who has been adopted, and Bella is now looking for a family of her very own.

Bella's foster shared: "Bella is truly one of the happiest dogs you will meet and it doesn't take long for her to become your loving girl. She looks straight into your eyes and is grateful to be with you. If you would like a hiking buddy who can match you step for step, Bella is your girl. If you want a snuggle bunny, she's that too. Bella loves to cuddle and gives endless kisses to show how much she appreciates the people she loves. She is adventurous, loves to sniff out critters in the yard and play fetch with a ball, and she loves riding in the car. She will be your best buddy and she is very smart. Her tail rarely stops wagging and that says it all." Check her out in this fun video!

Bella has wonderful house manners, eating and sleeping well, and is fully house trained. She can be left home alone with no problems. Bella gets along well with everyone she meets, including kids. She has been working on her leash skills and, with the help of a harness and treats, she keeps improving.

Bella, like many dogs, can be selective about the dogs she meets. She has had professional training to help with her dog interactions and to help her become her best self. That said, she truly deserves to be someone's only dog, living in a home with a fenced yard. With her happy spirit that shines through her big, bright eyes, you can see how much she wants to belong. If you have space in your heart and home for Bella, ask about her.

Bella had been spayed and was given heartworm preventative, so she is heartworm negative (hooray!). She is up to date on her vaccinations and micro-chipped. Bella is a wonderful companion dog who will enrich the life of anyone who gives her a loving home!

Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to continue the rehabilitation we have begun.

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.

Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.
