Punky is an impossibly cute, cuddly sweetheart of a mexi-mix. He was dumped at the shelter dragging his leg behind him and a mangled paw that may have been the result of being hit by and dragged by a car. We don’t know for sure what did happen, but we do know is that he was abandoned to suffer for some time with a very broken broken leg. In order to save the leg, the specialist had to rebreak it and poor Punky spent three full months in a crate to help him heal.

Fortunately, the surgery was a success and punky has full use of his right front leg, although he walks with a limp and is missing some parts of his two paw pads, it doesn’t seem to slow him down. He may not have as much strength in his right leg but swimming and other gentle activities will help him gain that strength back. If you’re looking for a rugged outdoor adventure dog, Punky is not your match.

Punky is active, curious, intelligent, very affection and always on watch. He loves to chase squirrels so he does have some prey drive. We are not sure sure whether cats are playmates but if the kitty is dog savvy it may be a match.

The ideal home for Punky would be one with a securely fenced yard where he could run and play as well as bask in the sun when he has expended his energy. Apartments are not ideal for him as he can be vocal at times. A household with no other dogs is best as we have found he can be selectivel. Punky needs an adopter who has rules, structure and routine so he can develop into a balanced dog. Obedience training is a must for this boy, since he has been cooped up in the shelter for so long, it would only help him into becoming all he can be and definitely assist him in him household manners.

If you feel you would be the right fit for Punky, please fill out an adoption application at www.allpawsmatter.ca

All APM dogs are UTD on vaccinations, microchipped, spayed or neutered, dewormed, Heart worm (4dx snap) tested and arrive with a health certificate. They come to adopter with a harness, a collar and two leashes for safety.

NOTE: The above description is relevant to this dog in its current and previous setting. Home changes and adopter personalities can bring out different behaviours not previously seen. We also do not claim or suggest that our dogs are hypo-allergenic or that they shed/do not shed.

BREED DISCLAIMER: We are never sure of the breed of our dogs since they arrive off the streets or shelters. It is a guess only!
